Yankees Stadium is officially closed for business.
A Nov. 9 concert was proposed as a final farewell for the House That Ruth Built, but the Yankees, fearing a less-than-memorable lineup, have bagged the celebration.
“The Yankees were considering having a charitable event at Yankee Stadium,” Jason Zillo, the team’s media relations director, said in a statement Tuesday. “However, the Yankees realize that the final event at Yankee Stadium should be a baseball game, which in fact took place on Sept. 21, 2008.”
This is a great call – if you ask me.

After botching the Clemens/Torre thing and blowing the lever-pulling thing with a bunch of stiffs from Met Life, at least the Yanks PR folks got one thing right.
I was kinda hoping the Rangers would play a game @ YS.
I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but it appears the dismantling of Shea has already begun; it looks like they’ve removed the seats.

I was driving out to my buddy in Huntington, LI this past weekend and noticed that a crane was already sticking up from the top of the part of Shea that you can see from the Grand Central Parkway. Made me wonder when we’ll see the same up at 161st & River…
I’d better get my camera ready…

Raf, these are awesome! Thanks!
PS – What do you shoot with? I’m getting into photography and always love to know what equipment others use.
I just use a basic Fujifilm Finepix J10. The other pictures were shot with inexpensive Olympus cameras (FE-110, 210 & 310, IIRC)
Point and shoot viewfinder cameras is what I use, my father is the one who has the expensive equipment
Well whatever cameras it is you’re using, keep it up. Some of those shots were fantastic!
(Obviously you have a good eye, too)
Thanks!
I agree with you, Steve.
