Whatever Happened To Uncle Willy? Stance Happy
Oct 09

Today, I’ve been playing around with the New York Yankees Essential Games of Yankee Stadium DVD collection. It’s pretty cool. These are the games that are included in the collection:

• 1976 ALCS GAME 5 VS. KANSAS CITY ROYALS
• 1977 WORLD SERIES GAME 6 VS. LOS ANGELES DODGERS
• 1995 ALDS GAME 2 VS. SEATTLE MARINERS
• 1996 WORLD SERIES GAME 6 VS. ATLANTA BRAVES
• 2001 WORLD SERIES GAME 4 VS. ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS
• 2003 ALCS GAME 7 VS. BOSTON RED SOX

It’s fun scanning through the games on each DVD – because you can pick whatever inning, including whether it’s the top or bottom of the inning, for each game, where you want to start watching…in case you don’t want to start right from the beginning of a game.

In addition, on the last DVD of the set, along with Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, there’s bonus features which include the following clips:

- 1978 ALCS Game 3 when Thurman Munson homers off Doug Bird;
- 1999 World Series Game 3 when Chad Curtis homers to win it;
- 1978 World Series Game 4 when Lou Piniella wins it in extras;
- Chris Chambliss talking about his 1976 ALCS Game 5 home run;
- Players talking about Reggie Jackson’s 3-homer game in the 1977 World Series;
- June 17, 1978 when Ron Guidry gets 18 Ks;
- August 6, 1979 when Bobby Murcer hits the game-winner;
- 1996 ALCS Game 1 when Derek Jeter homers with some help;
- 1999 ALCS Game 1 when Bernie Williams hits a walk-off to beat Boston;
- 2000 World Series Game 1 when the Yankees comeback and win it;
- 2001 World Series Game 5 when Scott Brosius homers and Alfonso Soriano wins it;
- July 1, 2004 when Derek Jeter makes “The Dive”
- Some players and celebrities being interviewed after the Boone homer in 2003;

If you’re looking for a DVD collection that captures what it was like to watch baseball played at the now “old” Yankee Stadium, circa 1976-2003, you cannot beat the New York Yankees Essential Games of Yankee Stadium DVD collection. I’m looking forward to watching more of the DVDs in the collection later today…and again in the future.

    Talking about Yankee DVDs, it irks me that the 2004 Red Sox and 2005 White Sox got DVDs for their World Series and, for all I know, the 2006 and 2007 champs got DVDs as well.

    The Yanks have a “Greatest Hits” sort of World Series DVD package. What’s up with that? MLB doesn’t like making money? I’d buy the 1996, 1998 and 2000 sets of WS DVDs in a heartbeat if they’d just put them out. It chaps my ass.

  2. Steve Lombardi Says:

    Probably have to wait for an anniversary on those MJ.

    IIRC, the 1977 WS Box Set came out in 2007.

    Look for 1996 in 2016, 1998 in 2018, and 2000 in 2010, 2020 or 2030… [wink]

  3. Raf Says:

    FWIW, the 1987 Twins have a DVD set for their World Series as well. So do the 1979 Pirates…

  4. Lee Sinins Says:

    The 1975 World Series is also available as a boxed set.
