The pitching, as a whole, was around the same in 08 that they were in 07. The offense didn't

Pitching wasn't the problem?

We had Ponson, Rasner, and Pavano make a ton of starts.

And pitching wasn't a problem?

Didn't the last few yrs show that a great offense is nothing compared to great pitching?

Don, good call. Santana was terrible in Fenway lifetime. That's why even Boston's offer was a bluff. That said, the Mets won 88 games right? Did they go to the playoffs? The whole Santana fiasco is losing steam.......

~~But I think we would have made it if Wang was healthy for the full season also.~~

And, if Babe Ruth were still alive, and only 29 years old, and still playing for the Yanks today, they would have made it too...I'm just saying... ;-)

Santana vs. the Bosox in the Fens. That's good history, so I hear.

Stop beating this dead horse Steve. TIA.

Pitching wasn’t the problem. It was the hitting. We all know this.
-----
I know, I know, but it's a lot easier to complain about the Santana nontrade.

I kind of agree. But I think we would have made it if Wang was healthy for the full season also.

A healthy Wang + Santana?? Sky would have been the limit.

a 789-665 run differential produces a Pythagenport record of 95-67, which was precisely the record Boston posted to win the AL wild card.
----------------
Which is all well and good, but for one thing; the 2008 Angels had a pythag record of 88-74. The Rays? 92-70. Toronto? 93-69.

Unfortunately, MLB doesn't count Pythag wins.

Davidoff is so wrong. The Yankees were terrible in regards to RISP. Their runs scored was equivalent to the Blue Jays. The Bluebirds(one of the worst GIDP, RISP teams this year) have the most dominant pitching in the AL and they came in 4th, so what the hell is Davidoff yapping about? The Yanks couldn't get a clutch hit to save their lives. Can you imagine Santana pitching a game and losing 1-0 because of that poor RISP factor. That seems more likely than Davidoff's moronic musings.
