It’s obvious that even if the Yankees add CC and Teix no one knows how next season will pan out. And especially if Hank adds Burnett , that will be the greatest coup de flop of all time. The Yanks will be in the mix BUT judging at the youth on Tampa and Boston, the Yanks have no equivalent position player youth movement.

FYI, Hank said the exact same thing in the article you linked above:

Get real….Compare the way Cash Man ( who pays more than any other team for bonus babies) drafts and the way Boston does. The Tankees will overspend again BUT it will be a short term solution to a long term problem. Cash Man’s build within philosophy is a flop, while Boston’s is a success.

The draft is but one part of building a team. There is also the international market, trades, and free agency.

I’m sure the Yanks will be fine next year; in a year where the Yanks have lost as much personnel as they did, they still won 89 games and were in the postseason hunt.

Cashman will spend a lot of money on some good free agents ( CC,Teix) AND a lot of money on bad(Burnett and god knows who else). The Yankee spinmeisters like Waldman, Kay and Jones are already trying to prepare the Yankee faithful for AJ’s coming. Whatta bunch of propagandists. Burnett will be Pavano part 2, pure and simple. Then where are they gonna get pitching from? Cash Man’s bad drafting has made it very difficult to keep up with the Rays and the Red Sox. Those two teams are building from within, whereas the Yankees are going to buy talent and that is a recipe for disaster.

So which would you prefer — Hank’s “we’ll win it all in ’09″ or Cashman’s approach…?
