While it’s not as bad as asking Mo to go two in 2001, and it’s not as bad as bringing in Jeff Weaver in 2003…Dodger fans got a taste of October Joe (sans Zimmer sweetener) in the NLCS last night.
Actually, this one is sort of like the plan to leave Mussina out west in 2005 or leaving Joba out there with the bugs in 2007…meaning Mr. T meant well, but, in the end, he thought wrong.

let me just add…
manager of men in the clubhouse? Joe Torre is the right guy.
manager of the game? Joe Torre is not.

It could’ve gone either way. Rosenthal himself said “Yes, Lowe was working on three days rest. Yes, the Dodgers had just taken a 3-2 lead. Yes, Torre could deplete his bullpen with a day off on Tuesday.
But in hindsight, Torre acted too soon.”
Having said that, I was a bit surprised that Lowe was pulled. Especially with the pitcher’s spot coming up the next inning.
