Not Losing Homegrown Sluggers

I was curious as to, among batters who have come up to the majors as a member of the Yankees, who has hit the most homeruns since leaving the Yankees? So, I asked Lee Sinins if there was a way to see this from the raw data behind the Complete Baseball Encyclopedia. And, here’s the “Born a Yankee, HRs after being a Yankee” leader-board that Lee sent me:

 Jay Buhner	307
 Deron Johnson	245
 Mike Lowell	201
 Jackie Jensen	190
 J.T. Snow	189
 Woodie Held	179
 Alf. Soriano	172
 Gus Triandos	166
 Lefty O'Doul	113
 Lee Thomas	106

So, when do you think it will be when Alfonso Soriano passes Jay Buhner on this list – sometime around 2013?

In any event, thanks to Lee for the list. For what it’s worth, it doesn’t appear like the Yankees have let too many homegrown sluggers get away…

…of course, this doesn’t count guys like Fred McGriff, who were in the Yankees system, and later made the majors somewhere else…and were slugging stars.
