WasWatching.com Water Cooler Talk 10/23/08
Feel free to use this post as a place for you to comment on anything Yankees-related (or within reach of tagging the bag of being Yankees-related on a decent slide) today. It could be a casual conversation offering, or, something you saw in the news, or something very detailed that you want to share that’s within the territory of Yankeeland.
Or, comment on something that someone else has posted here in the comments…
Have fun. Play nice. And, remember, keep it Yankees-focused.
P.S. – if you want to discuss Game 1 of the 2008 World Series, as a special treat, here – that’s O.K., today, too.

funny… so quick to point out a rocky start, but didnt hear any mention of Phil Hughes’s selection (and Austin Jackson’s, too by the way) to the Arizona Fall League’s Rising Stars game.
oh i know… he should be there, right?
What’s Hughes ERA in the AFL, to date? Something like 5.40? Yeah, he’s a star…
FWIW, I just checked…it’s 5.68
But if his ERA were 0.00, you’d find a way to knock that too, right?
“Scouting and minor league directors of every major-league organization, in consultation with Fall League Executive Director Steve Cobb and his baseball personnel staff, selected the players for the showcase.”
from Pete.
but i guess all those scouts, directors, and personnel must be sorely mistaken.
~~But if his ERA were 0.00, you’d find a way to knock that too, right?~~
Wow. I love it when people try to put words in my mouth.
MJ, if you know what I’m going to write, maybe you should write the blog for me…
TurnTwo – think about it. It’s a name thing. Hughes is a name. That’s why he was select. It’s to try and draw some attention to the game, that’s all.

Happy to.

wow. so you’re going to outright discredit the opinions of professional baseball scouts and directors just because you think they want to sell an extra ticket to a minor league fall ball game in Arizona?

don’t be naive, its ALWAYS about the $$
“if you know what I’m going to write, maybe you should write the blog for me…”
Anything related to Brian Cashman you try to knock
You didn’t mention a thing about Hughes until he got rocked in his third or 4th start.
What about the first 2 or 3 that were pretty damn good?
He sucked in his last start….it happens, right? If he sucks in every start then there’s a problem…
You know what good has come out of Tampa being in the world series? Everyone is going to be talking about how the Rays should put price in the bullpen as their closer, meanwhile the dude has #1 starter written all over him. This talk might actually allow the Yanks to put Joba in the rotation and not have anyone notice
Corey, I thought the same thing. The problem is that last year, it was just ignorant people saying that. This year, the ignorant people are joined by those that believe Joba can’t withstand the rigors of being a starter. I’m very much afraid that schmucks like Posada and Mike Francessa (sp?) will win out and we’ll waste Joba as an 8th inning specialist.
