Yankee Stadium could host one final ceremony after all.

Plans are in the works to have Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte transfer home plate from the current ballpark into the new Yankee Stadium – perhaps on Nov. 8, according to a person familiar with the concept.

The four veteran Yankees are scheduled to be in New York on Nov. 7, for the sixth annual dinner to benefit Joe Torre’s ‘Safe at Home Foundation,’ established to prevent the cycle of domestic violence.

Does A-Rod get to move anything too? At times like these, in a way, it doesn’t even seem like he’s on the team. How many other teams would leave their highest paid star, and future Hall of Famer, out of something like this?

In any event, I’m happy for the four who get to do this – it’s a nice touch.

      Really, Steve? REALLY?

Jeter, Posada, Rivera and Pettitte are the only ‘dynasty Yankees’ that are playing for them. Those four are ALWAYS referenced as the ‘dynasty players’, not because of their production (because, really, what did Posada – and Pettitte – actually do this year that was noteworthy?) but because of their sentimental value to the team. This is so ridiculously obvious. But, I guess you have to get your shots at A-Rod in there somewhere.

I’m also wondering, did you despise Dave Winfield this much?

For the record, I thought Winfield was milking it in 1989.

AndrewYF, seriously, when Hank gave A-Rod $275 million for 10 years, don’t you think it was with the intent of making the ‘best player in the game’ and the ‘future all-time homerun king’ the face of the franchise? Related, should not the face of the franchse be present at events such as this?

BTW, AndrewYF, I’m still waiting for you to answer my question in the ‘Leitch: Stimulus in Pinstripes’ entry from the other day.

Same reason the guys at firejoemorgan continue to read, say, Bill Platzke. It pissed me off, but I get entertainment value out of it.

I’ll take that as a “thank you” and say “you’re welcome.” ;-)

As long as Jeter is here, Rodriguez will never be the face of the franchise.

A-Rod is the highest paid player and a home run hitter. Jeter is the face. Just how it works, like it or not.
