Steve, get over the Johan Santana trade. First of all, we don’t know what the TRUE offer was for Santana. It could have been more players or different players so don;t make it about melky/hughes etc. Second, the Twins didn’t want him in the AL so we would have had to give up top prospects and a giant sum of money for one pitcher when an equally talented pitcher, CC, would be available the next year for just money. I’m happy we didn;t trade for him and we’ll see how Hughes and Kenneddy develope. Chances are, in 3 years, they will be a better package of talent than just Santana when he’s in his mid 30s

I’d say the Astros were pretty stupid not to pull the Yankees into the bidding to ensure, between Boston and New York, they got the best deal possible by playing the two teams off each other…

And if tomorrow the Astros traded Oswalt to the Red Sox, and it was found out that the Yankees didn’t even discuss a trade, what would you be saying?
