    Via Ken Davidoff:

The Yankees have spoken with the White Sox about their interest in Nick Swisher. The person with whom I spoke about this stressed to me that the talks were extremely preliminary. The White Sox are not looking to dump Swisher, contrary to some reports out there. They’d much rather unload someone like Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko or Jim Thome, although those are three challenging assignments.

So stay tuned on this one. If the Yankees strike out on Mark Teixeira, and if the White Sox can’t get anything done elsewhere, then maybe this advances. For now, though, it’s but a whisper.

Swisher was just terrible on the road in 2008. His BA/OBA/SLG line, on the road, was .189/.301/.294 – yeah, that’s no typo. His OBA was .301 and his SLG% was less than that.

Why did this happen? I dunno…but, he’s never had such a split in his home/road numbers before…

He’s young, still. And, he’s durable. Yet, there’s just something there that makes my Yankee-sense tingle…and say ‘beware.’

He also plays a lot of position, and take his walks with a good deal of power if this is a buy low situation. then I’d definately go for it.

He’d be a great undervalued pick-up this offseason. Depends on what the White Sox want.

His BABIP was .251 on the season which proves he was just unlucky.

Mind to check is road BABIP?

Also his LD% was the highest on his career at 20.9%. The guy was just unlucky as hell.

He’s not a .219 hitter. He’s more of a .250/.350/.410 guy. He can play the entire OF and 1B. He’s 28 years old.

      His salary, 2009: $5.3 million, 2010: $6.75 million, 2011: $9 million.

That’s a perfect timing for guys like Bradley Suttle, Jesus Montero and Brandon Laird to arrive and take up 1B.

I completely agree. Swisher can hit enough to play LF or 1B (career OPS+ 112) and is still youngish. At worst, he’s certainly a better 4th option than Gardner/Melky/Justin Christian.

I think he just had a bad year.

That said, I’m sure Kenny Williams knows that, and is going to want to ask for a lot in return.

Agreed. Kenny Williams is off-the-wall crazy but I’m sure he won’t sell low if he can avoid it.
