Personally, Pettitte has had an elbow issue for as long as I can remember. Proven that he’s healthy (pending results of a physical), I’d have no problem signing him to a 2-year contract. Especially considering the market for pitching.

Burnett’s ERA against everyone in the AL including the new beast on the block, Tampa is over 5. AJ never guts anything out. Emotion or not Pettite can still pitch somewhat effectively and so can Moose BUT AJ? If the Yanks sign AJ, the season is already done…he’ll be paid like a number 1 and become Pavano part 2!

Actually, considering that he pitched half the season with a condition that would have driven most pitchers to the DL, I think that warrants giving him two years…because you know he’s not going to pull a Pavano on you.

Not quite sure I agree with that line of thinking. Kevin Brown pitched through pain, Jaret Wright pitched through pain, Javy Vazquez pitched through pain, Randy Johnson pitched through pain…

I’d rather they take time off to fix whatever’s wrong than stink up the joint b/c they’re ineffective.

I’m predicting a one-year, $12 million deal for Pettitte, which gets done before the Winter Meetings.

Unfortunately, he’s saying he wants at least two years guaranteed. After how he pitched this year, you can’t give him that.

But he’s a perfect fit for the Yankees in 2009.
