He’ll have to be lights out @ AAA in order for him to get a call, or the Yankees’ pitching staff will have to suffer a ridiculous number of injuries.

I remember reading that he asked, and was denied. That was a Jayson Stark article. An article in the NYT mentions that he denies that rumor and has every intention of fulfilling his contractual obligation.

Igawa is at AAA to eventually, hopefully, cross fingers and toes and knock wood, interest someone in making a deal that makes sense for both teams.

If it doesn’t happen, maybe he asks to be released to return to Japan, or he just stays there, where contrary to what Steve is claiming, no one’s development is effectively hurt, let alone halted.

You know though, a question might be: Where do you rank Igawa in terms of the major league rotation? What would have to happen for Igawa to be given another chance?

Mmmm, I don’t think that the Pads wanted money, the cheap 4 mill salary was attractive enough in that bloody case. They have to get rid of Igawa if they still can. He has made Pavano look like a relative success! Why pay someone to pitch in AAA for 4 mill? It makes no sense, he needs to be thrown out…..ASAP. BTW, Igawa is no longer a filler guy BECAUSE he can’t pitch effectively in any fashion in the majors. Ponson or Pavano are fillers, Igawa doesn’t even rise to the level of a AAAA player.

My understanding was always that the Yanks were being asked to pay Igawa’s salary as part of the trade. Why pay Igawa money to pitch elsewhere when he can just stay in the system for the same money?

It was reported, by some, that *maybe* the Padres or Cardinals or whomever *may* have had a *slight* interest in Igawa.

Burying Cashman because you think he should have made a trade that probably didn’t even exist is intellectually dishonest.

And, it’s just not prospects – it could be a rehab/recovery type project guy. Igawa tying up a roster spot and taking a turn makes it harder to squeeze those guys into Triple-A.

Not really. Igawa was there last year, and Sidney Ponson & Victor Zambrano were able to make starts. He was there last year and the organization was still able to give Colter Bean(!) & Runelvys Hernandez starts.
