I like Abreu more than most. But the Yanks are overflowing with corner outfielders. The others are still under contract. It’s just unfortunate math against Abreu staying with the club.

You need more than 1996 role players to succeed in the Twenty Os. Abreu can add to the production and then they can go out and add a piece like Mark Teixeira,those would be great adjustments to improve the team. But with Cash Man at the helm and Hanky lurking in the background Burnett gets signed, Teixeira goes back to LALA land, and the Yankees become the Tankees again.

He wants three, maybe, just maybe, he doesn’t get it but no one said he won’t get a two year offer. Two years, 30 million vs 1 for 16? Given his age he’d be foolish not to take the longer deal.

I’ve seen far worse players get multi-year deals than Abreu
