While I agree that Hank comes across as being extremely rough around the edges, have we seen (and heard?) enough to already cast him as the doom of the franchise? Or, should we wait and see?

Until his big mouth actually costs the Yankees something (like a free agent signing somewhere else, or problems with tampering), I see no problem in Hank being loud and obnoxious. Honestly, I think it probably helps the FA cause for the most part (as long as his public statements don’t undercut Cashman’s negotiating plan.)

The only problem now is that Hank lacks respect. He is closer to Al Davis than Big George. George could get players and coaches to respond to him, whereas when Al says something everyone just rolls their eyes. I hope Hank evolves into something much closer to his father than to Al Davis.

I don’t think the Yankees are dumb. We know Cashman and Hal are on the same page, so this is a good thing. Hank, like his father, is the mouth that roared, but Hal appears to be the brain, and the power behind the throan. Now if HANK were named, I’d be bummed. But it’s wasn’t even Hank and Hal… just Hal.

Methinks this is good news.

FWIW, I’ve seen reports that say Hal got the nod because he’s working on the financial side – however, Hank is still the big cheese in Baseball Operations.

I wonder if Hankie is going to pout and cry and bring up Johan Santana again to make him feel better about being constantly exposed as an emasculated brat.
