Yankees & Bosox Disagree On Junichi Tazawa WasWatching.com Water Cooler Talk 11/24/08

Austin Jackson more than held his own in Double-A during 2008 playing in a home park that somewhat favors pitchers. However, this off-season, in the AFL, he posted a BA/OBA/SLG line of .246/.298/.377 in 114 AB.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman called Jackson one of two positional prospects in his system closest to helping the big league team. Given New York’s need in CF for 2009, Jackson could make the leap from AA with a strong spring – assuming the Yankees do not acquire a CF in the off-season. However, if that recent Jackson AFL experience suggests that we should not expect this prospect to make that leap…at least yet.

“Yankees GM Brian Cashman called Jackson one of two positional prospects in his system closest to helping the big league team.” Last spring Cash said Gardner was the player most likely to have an “impact” on the 2008 team. It’s hard to take what he says seriously.
The right thing to do would be to give Jackson another year in the minors. Another rush job won’t help anyone.

  4. MJ Says:

I don’t think the Yanks have any intention of promoting Jackson in 2009, no matter if he has a great spring training or if he eats up minor league pitching at AAA. He won’t see Yankee Stadium until 2010 at the earliest.
