Bailey Trade Set Market Price For Hughes?

With baseball’s annual winter meetings unfurling this week at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, rumors run rampant.
A noteworthy one involving the Cincinnati Reds is making the rounds — pitcher Homer Bailey for Chicago White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye.
A major-league source close to the situation told The Dayton Daily News on Sunday, Dec. 7, “The deal is done and will be announced this week.”
The Reds are in the market for an outfielder and moving Bailey makes sense. The 22-year-old righthander, the team’s No. 1 draft pick in 2004, has not lived up to high expectations and some club officials believe a change of venue would be best for him.
Homer Bailey. You know, for a while, it seemed like Homer Bailey’s name came up every time you heard Phil Hughes’ name too.
In “The Baseball Prospect Book 2007,” John Sickels listed the Yankees’ Phil Hughes as the best pitching prospect in all of baseball – followed by Matt Garza (Twins), Yovani Gallardo (Brewers), Homer Bailey (Reds) and Tim Lincecum (Giants).
In January of 2007, Bryan Smith of The Baseball Analysts listed Homer Bailey as the third best prospect in baseball with Phil Hughes right behind him.
In April of 2007, Nate Silver at Baseball Prospectus wrote: The conventional wisdom is that the title of best pitching prospect in baseball–-non-foreign import category-–is a toss-up between Philip Hughes and Homer Bailey. PECOTA begs to differ, suggesting that Tim Lincecum belongs in the discussion.
And, now, Bailey (if this report is true) gets traded for Jermaine Dye. Wow.
If that’s the market for Homer Bailey, what would Phil Hughes fetch today? Randy Winn?

And that rumor was quickly shot down by the Reds
And you just convinently overlook the obvious fact that some of the other names that poped into those disscussions include a guy that’s already won a Cy Young and two other guys that’s had good seasons under their belts
Homer Bailey: 0-6 7.93 18 17
Phil Hughes:: 0-4 6.62 23 15
They both had horrid years, but Bailey was quite a bit worse then Phil.
But the Reds haven’t given up on Homer yet. And we should not be giving up on Phil.
Also, based on what Pete Abe has written on his blog, it sounds like Bailey has a attitude problem. Maybe the Reds are eager sellers…

which is why if the Padres ask for Hughes in order to get Peavy, you dont think twice.

Isn’t Jermaine Dye a good bit better than Randy Winn? You’re even selling Hughes short on the trade market?! That’s insanity.
