I was just looking at the list of minor league free agents and noticed several former Yankees “prospects” among those no longer wanted by their major league organizations:
Colter Bean (Rays)
Sean Henn (Padres)
Jason Anderson (Phillies)
Danny Borrell (A’s)
John-Ford Griffin (Dodgers)
Mitch Jones (Dodgers)
Brian Buchanan (Royals)
Erick Almonte (Tigers)
Estee Harris (Whte Sox)
Randy Keisler (Orioles)
D’Angelo Jimenez (Cardinals)
Makes me wonder which current Yankees “prospects” will end up finding themselves in this spot someday…

NONE! They’ll all be in the hall of fame….DUUHHH
But really, D’Angelo Jimenez had some pretty solid years as a utility guy. He would be worth bringing back to stow away in AAA and to use if the current utility guy gets injured…..wait do the Yanks even have a utility guy at this point?

Cody Ransom, I suppose.

Some of those guys were barely considered prospects, others were trade bait…
Given the nature of the game, I would say quite a few “prospects” will flame out due to injury and ineffectiveness.

Is he under contract for 2009? IIRC, the Yankees signed him to a minor league deal for 2008. That doesn’t cover 2009.

Eh, I’m not too worried about it. There are three months before spring training. Not having your 24th or 25th man on the roster on 12/7/08 is none too significant.

Ah yes, I remember the days when everyone was raving about how Colter Bean was going to be an ace and pointing to all those stellar minor league starts to back it up. Just goes to show, there are no sure things.
So trade Hughes, Kennedy and Jackson for Randy Winn. Quick!
