AJ will be a bigtime stiff. It shows that the Yankee front brass is filled with morons. This guy didn’t win over 12 games until last year. I would much rather get Sheets for 2 years rather than AJ for even 4 years! Toronto already offered him 4 ,BUT it seems that JP gave him that offer just to refuse it to get the upper tier draft picks. Both Sheets AND AJ are injury risks BUT three extra years of Burnett means three more years of screaming Yankee fans.

I’ll tell you what, I just don’t understand the rationale here. First, Mark Teixeira should not be allowed to slip through our fingers. Second, AJ Burnett is a mistake of a different variety than Derek Lowe.

The Yanks should’ve gone for Ben Sheets on a short deal and brought back Andy Pettitte.

Worse yet, this offseason represents the worst in Yankee management: totally reactionary, without focus. 2008 was supposed to be a season about working with the younger players. Or; you mean like the Tigers (Dave Dombrowski) let Carlos Pena go for nothing before he went to the Yankees, and the Red Sox (Theo Epstein) let Carlos Pena go for nothing after the Yankees let him go for nothing?

Cashman’s decision on Burnett is being made NOW, with 2 “holes” remaining in the rotation. Does his decision to chase Burnett shade the Braves’ decision to do likewise as faulty, or does their decision imply that Cashman’s is reasonable (based on what is known now, not 3 years from now)?

Choose. Choose now. You’re the GM, so choose wisely. And have the maturity to stand by it, years from now. Keep in mind that something like 50% of big-money free agent pitcher signings sink like the Titanic, and realize then that the Yanks odds of not rueing either the Sabathia signing or a Burnett signing is 1 in 4.

I think they should just wait to see what happens with Sheets and/or Pettitte first.

Even with the injury risk, they should really chase Sheets with a 2 year deal.
