The team does not give no-trade clauses to anyone. They jerry-rigged a way to get around that for Varitek, and that is absolutely it. The only no-trades that anyone has are the ones they earn through the PA by being a 10-5 man. Quote from Once I WAs

They give no NTC trade clauses ,unh? The last time I checked Dice-K's name is not Varitek. You were hoisted on your own petard! You can't even make amends when you make a mistake! Bad job, Once I was, not only do you come across as being uninformed BUT you are ungracious as well.

FWIW, as Raf quotes exactly above, Cot's says Lowell has "no-trade protection".

Which it distinguishes from Matsuzaka, who has "full no-trade clause: may not be traded without consent, provided player gets his first day of Major League service during a guaranteed contract of at least 6 years after player has been with a professional baseball league team other than a major or minor league team", which I read to mean Dice-K has a full no-trade, because his current contract is exactly 6 years, his first day of ML service was his 1st day under this contract, and he came from a professional baseball team which not not a major or minor league team, namely, the Japanese professional league.

And it also distinguishes that clause from JD Drew's contract, which has a "limited no-trade clause allowing Drew to block deals to 2 clubs" (Cards and Phillies, maybe???)

You claim Lowell has a no-trade, I showed that you are wrong
-------
FWIW, Cot's Baseball Contracts has Lowell listed with "no trade protection" which may or may not mean he has a NTC.

and what matters is that Dice-K is the only player with such a clause, and that Lowell absolutely does not have one.

Once I Was, one more lesson for you....I checked the Sons of Sam Horn and Dice-k has a full no-trade clause. You look uninformed now, unh? You learn something new everyday. Your misguided and immature tirade was definitely for naught.....

Yank Crank, I hate AJerk Burnit(I didn't call him AJerk Burnett that is too dignified for a headcase like him). Crank, my statements are very well thought and intelligent contrary to your statement. Yes, I have derisive nicknames like the Red Pox, Tankees, Orange County Angels of Pasadens, but it's all in good fun. I'm an equal opportunity offender BTW.I have listened to tons of Toronto games the last few years and this guy is a waste. He got involved in a mess with the cops that makes Arod's activities look sedate. He was terrible with the Toronto press that is so benign. I've said this a million times, he had a big comfort zone in Toronto with Halladay, Arnsberg(his old pitching coach) and an easy press corps. He could hardly handle it up there when JP Retardi called him out for being injured. Knowing this about the guy, I cannot take such a big signing so lightly after Pavano, Igawa among other disasters. Don't be dissapointed when he flops, I'm just deriding the fact that the team seems to be making tons of mistakes.

Crank , another thing Cash Man seems to be running the team into the ground since he gained full control 3 years ago. It resulted in the Yankees finishing in third place last year. I feel that this is yet another signing that will result in more dissapointment because the Yankee front office didn't do their due diligence. If the Yanks were more successful then we can cheer loudly for them. BUT when their primary shortcoming was offense BY FAR then the adjustments should be made accordlingly. Instead, they were fine with pitching last year and are letting the hitting aspect twist in the wind.

First of all, Yank Crank is right on the money - Butchie might get a bit more respect if he could communicate in an adult manner. It seems as though he would fit much better at the MLB boards. Massholia ... AJerk ... etc. says more about the poster than it does about the targets he chooses.

Secondly, Butchie, who wrote

"...Lowell has a no-trade clause, why would he leave a great situation in Boston having a chance to win every year and being such a big part of the team?"

And

"...whereas you owuld (sic) need Lowell’s consent and Boston would have to eat money on that contract."

Where exactly did I take things out of context?

You claim Lowell has a no-trade, I showed that you are wrong and that in fact because of his longevity, Ortiz is the one who can control his destiny, not Lowell.

You think Ellsbury is overrated? Well woop-ti-bleeping-do. Someone is supposed to care what you think? Get back to me next October, we'll find out who is right and who is Butchie.

Butchie, i'm happy for you that you watch and listen to Red Sox games and i'm sorry that you have such a biased opinion on AJ Burnett being a Yankee. However, whenever I read your posts they are littered with childish-name calling followed with incorrect facts that you claim to be true by posting "PERIOD" after them. I am never 100% correct, and I don't love every Yankee, but I also don't come up with retarded names for people I don't like and slam our G.M. for his moves that haven't even been judged yet. You can hate AJ, but maybe he will be a good Yankee and maybe it will be the best signing Cashman ever had? You just don't know. Also, he's a Yankee now...you should probably accept he's part of your favorite team and hope for the best. Acting like a 12-year-old won't make him go away so grow up.

I assumed this blog was for adult-oriented conversation about the Yankees and not calling our players "AJerk Burnett." This isn't my blog si i apologize and retract my statement, but do us all a favor and grow up a little bit. I'd like to hear something intelligent for once.

Raf, the Lowell trade is contigent on many different things. Feliz is still with the Phillies and does Ruben Amaro want to potentially add more money in March when his spending will be set by the time spring training starts.
----------
Feliz is still with the Phils, but that will not stop them from acquiring Lowell if he becomes available. If Lowell's healthy, he is clearly an upgrade over Feliz. He's probably an upgrade as he is now :). Also, Feliz is signed through next year, Lowell is signed through '10.

Lowell and the Phils were talking contract when he signed with the Sox, so it's not like he's unfamiliar with the idea of playing there.

Assuming the Sox sign Tex, if Lowell stays, he's a backup. If that what he wants to do, that's fine. If he wants to waive his no-trade and be traded, that's also fine. But if he wants to be traded, Philly is the logical choice for him to land.
