He thinks much of the criticism of him is rubbish. And he’s right, much of it is.

You happen to think he’s rubbish, so, naturally, you interpret this as being “thin-skinned”.

What’s actually happening here is that Cashman is just another in a long list of victims of false expectations vis a vis his treatment by the media.

As my friend says, “They build you up just so they can tear you down.” He may have thought he was immune due to the team’s performance over the great length of his tenure, and due to his willingness to patiently and calmly explain his actions and motives. Now he knows better.

I doubt he really spent much time thinking about it until it came time to renew his contract.
