Mark Teixeira To Bosox?
Prized free agent Mark Teixeira’s decision on where he will play next season is reportedly imminent, according to ESPN.com and The Washington Times.
It may be that the Boston Red Sox have won the bidding for the first basemen.
The Washington Times quoted a source as saying, “the Red Sox will announce that they have landed the highly-coveted slugger, who has been courted this off-season by several major league clubs, including the Angels, Orioles and Nationals.”
“The Red Sox have been considered one of the lead contenders in the Teixeira sweepstakes, but it was unclear whether the team would be able to meet the asking price from agent Scott Boras, who had hoped to land a contract for as much as $200 million over ten years,” the Times reported.
Well, Tex did say that he wanted this done before X-mas…

From MLB.COM
“While the Times said signs point to his signing with the Red Sox, an MLB source familiar with the negotiations told MLB.com that the Nationals, another of Teixeira’s leading suitors, had not yet been notified that he has reached an agreement with another team. Ordinarily, rejected clubs in such circumstances are informed when a decision has been reached, as a matter of courtesy.”

Who said Scott Boras had any courtesy?!

Holy Sh*T! Teixeira is a Yankee! Talk about dreams coming true. That was a great surprise…..Cash Man, Levine, Trost and Co are wiser than I thought. This move was a step in the right direction. This is a great adjustment given the mediocre offense last season. Next move: Get Pettitte back.
wow
somewhere MJ is jumping for joy

Corey, you got that right!
I like Pete Abe well enough, but anyone else giggling over the top post on the LoHud blog right about now?
the sox look foolish if the yanks got him for 170 and they wouldnt go above 160..granted they didnt NEED him, but for less then an extra mil a season…just seems silly
I’ll tell you, I never saw this one coming. I’m absolutely shocked by this.
The Red Sox had meetings reagrding Teixeira and that one of the conclusions drawn was they could live without him. Quite frankly, I agree and have said that they were OK without him.. Boston is still very competitive and still has a pretty good offense. They can land someone like Abreu at a lower price and they will be fine. I always felt that they wouldn’t overspend on Teix since Papi, Lowell, among others make less than 15 mill. They brought back Schill at a cut-rate price and are always looking for the cheap price. Dice-K was that great exception though they didn’t commit potentially 200 mill to one player like Manny. I know there are others like Lugo and Drew, but no one is making 20 mill a year on that squad. I think Manny (a Duquette signing before the new regime) might be the last Red Sox Mega deal to have a player top over 20 mill a year….. that is until Beckett’s resigning.
I don’t give a crap about Boston at this moment. They’re a great team, they were within one win of going back to the World Series, and there’s no doubt whatsoever that they’ll be one of the best teams in the AL again next year. I respect the hell out of their ownership and front office and I wish the Yanks were more like the Red Sox in that regard…but…
I’m just glad that the Yanks added an impact bat who is in his prime and who plays good defense to boot. They’ve adequately replaced Jason Giambi in the lineup with a switch hitter. If the Yanks hit and pitch up to their capabilities, I see no reason why the Yanks can’t beat all comers in 2009.
