• Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a frog!

    ...a frog?

Not bird, nor plane, nor even frog, it's just a little 'ole baseball blog!

It’s really cold in the New York City area. No better time for a baseball fix. Here’s a highlight from the Yankees game of June 24, 1970:

Holy Cow! I remember watching that game on TV (it was the week after school ended, I think). It was also the day that Bobby Murcer homered in 4 consecutive at bats.

      I was there!

What an afternoon – a mid-week doubleheader (remember those?) filled with memorable moments. Tony Horton’s crawling into the dugout was just one of them. Of course, Murcer’s 4 consecutive HRs, the first in the 9th inning of the first game against Sudden Sam McDowell and the last one to win the second game, were the biggest story.

But, there was also a fight involving Stan Bahnsen and Vada Pinson after a collision at home plate (IIRC Bahnsen got decked by Pinson), a cherry bomb was tossed from the upper deck and exploded right besides Indians C Ray Fosse.

I doubt I will ever have a more memorable experience at the ballpark than I did that day.

      @ roadrider:
I was there too!! It was two days after graduating from high school. Me and a group of my friend went to the game to celebrate our graduation and my 18th birthday. I bought my first legal beer in Yankee Stadium!! It was a day to remember!! 39 years later I still get a message from my fellow Yankee Fan “Pokey Pete.” In fact, this link came to me as this year’s treat. As in the movie “Field Of Dreams” baseball unites us. Through a lifetime of living, the joys, the sorrows, we keep coming back to one common love..the game of baseball. It is more than a game, it is our national past time. That was one of the best days of my life, it is right up there with graduations, births, marriages, etc. It was pure joy. We were Yankee Fans through the thick and thin of it. The Horace Clark era, the beginning of the too short Thurman Munson era, and beyond. I am with Road Rider, “I doubt I will ever have a more memorable day (or birthday) at the ballpark than I did that day.
RIP Thurman, Bobby, Mickey, Tom Tresh, The Scooter, and all the other that have added so much happiness to our lives!!
      PLAY BALL!!!
