John Sickels got me thinking. Who have been the biggest recent Yankees prospect failures?

Here’s some names that come to my mind:

Ruben Rivera, Brian Buchanan, Matt Drews, Shea Morenz, Ricky Ledee, D’Angelo Jimenez, Donzell McDonald, Ryan Bradley, Andy Brown, Ed Yarnall, Drew Henson, David Walling, Deivi Mendez, David Parrish, Brandon Claussen, John-Ford Griffin, Brandon Weeden, Eric Duncan, Jason Anderson, and Sean Henn…

Who would you add to this list?

Who was the 5th starter the Yankees gave the job to out of spring training back in like 2000-2001 who pitched like 5 innings and then was never heard from again? Christian Parker?

Then there was Randy Kiesler. What a joke he was.

Whatever Ricky Ledee was or wasn’t, I can’t add him to the list because he (along with Jake Westbrook and Zach Day) brought back David Justice in a trade. As I remember it, David Justice played a big role for the 2000 World Series team.

Even if a prospect fails to pan out, if you can trade that prospect for something that gets you a WS ring, that prospect served his purpose.

You can add Wily Mo Pena and Jackson Mellian to the list.

Ian “Call Me IPK” Kennedy? Hensley “Bam Bam” Meulens? Brad “the Admiral” Halsey? El Duquecito?

Kennedy is not on that list. He’s 23/24 and was a first round pick in 2006. Give the kid a chance to develop.

Bam Bam is a good one. Brad Halsey was never a big prospect, that big things were expected from. One that I remember was Mark Hutten

big things weren’t expected from Hutton either. Of the names listed above, maybe Ruben Rivera, Drew Henson & Sean Henn were expected to make bigger contributions than they did.

I don’t know what happened to Reuben, but it seems once he went to the Padres organization, he forgot how to hit?

I’ll always have a fond spot for Andy Brown. Two or three years after the Yankees drafted him and he was at Staten Island, I saw him play in person at Skylands, then the home of the short-season NJ Cardinals. And I relaized immediately that I was watching the worst professional baseball player I had ever seen. Memories like that will stay with you for a lifetime…

      Steve:

Thanks for the memories! At least Harris could run…
