How is your scenario even the same thing as what Mussina said?

What question did the reporter in your scenario ask Jeter? “How do you feel not being the only player to not come through in the clutch over the past 4 years?”

Are you arguing for argument sake or do you really believe that what Torre said/has done is even in the same realm as what Mussina said in an interview?

Teammate speaking versus a former manager writing a book? On the spot interview versus months/couple of years of putting a book together? A player known for speaking plainly versus a manger that preached silence all his time here?

If Derek Jeter comes out this March and says “A-Rod is terrible on catching pop-ups and he has not come through in the clutch during the post-season in our last four post-season series” – that’s OK because Jeter is not getting any money from sharing this opinion and he’s limited it to performance and not saying anything about someone in the clubhouse or Alex’s personal life?

Just the same as Mussina wants to slap Torre for talking about Brown, et al.

BTW, didn’t mean to use ‘Correct me if I’m wrong’ as a sarcastic response. Call it lack of originality.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s a difference here. Mussina was calling out Pavano on his performance, not his clubhouse demeanor. And he simply stated the obvious in regards to Johnson – the man didn’t look like he *ever* had a good time pitching here.

Nothing too shocking, wouldn’t you say? The material in Torre’s book goes a bit beyond what the average fan could come up with on his/her own, as Mussina’s comments lean towards.
