Kay is a suit to a lot of these Yankee players, he represents the company. To add insult to injury, he plays a different character on his radio show altogether. Will the Real M Kay please stand up? I’m no fan of Torre, but Kay needs to chill about St Joe. His constant reminder of the story behind their mutual animus is a bore, plain and simple.

Kay has become quite pompous, although, I thought he did a good job when he did the radio broadcasts with John Sterling.

I thought the Kay/Torre feud all started with Torre dressing down Kay in front of the team and other reporters for a question he thought was mean-spirited, or something and that calling Kay out would rally the team. I seem to remember it having to do with Paul O’Neill. Does that sound familiar?

I think the Mussina thing is easy.

Kay, most likely, expected Moose to kiss his ass, and feed him info, access, etc. – because Kay is the ‘voice of the Yankeees’ – and Mussina, probably, saw Kay as just another media member who didn’t know his ass from his elbow it terms of baseball stuff.

And, when Mussina gave Kay the stiff arm, Moose became Fredo to Kay.

It’s probably the same deal with Torre.

Joe got big enough that he felt that Kay should kiss his ass, and not vice versa, and then Torre became Fredo to Kay, etc.

Again, just my theory.

If someone has a better one, I’d love to hear it.

Seriously, this is an interesting story. Is it telling us something about Torre, Kay, or both? Probably both…

Interesting indeed. I also hope Kay finally reveals why he hates Mussina as much as he does. Frankly, if a member of the media hates this many people, it makes you wonder about him as a person and also how he can do his job objectively.

I’m pretty sure Michael Kay wakes up every morning and spends the first hour of every day sipping coffee and thinking up new and exciting ways to be an even more obnoxious asshat.
