What I find most interesting, at this moment, is that, again, reportedly, A-Rod was told about this story two days ago…and never told the Yankees that it was going to break, and never tried to get in front of it.

Man, if I’m the Yankees, I’m pissed right now.

It’s small sample size Steve, you know that. I think the guy presses a little bit, but on the other hand he’s had good postseasons as well.

Actually, for me, this one is on Hank. It seems like Cashman was ready to let him walk when he opted out…at least in the public eye.

FWIW, we do know that A-Rod is a headcase in the sense that he’s someone who will very easily start pressing, and failing, when there’s pressure.

MJ, you’ve got your facts wrong. The tests were anonymous, and the Union had the right to destroy the samples and results. They did not, for unknown reasons. The results became of interest to the BALCO investigators, who secured a search warrant. The search warrant wanted info on the results for the ten players connected to BALCO but they ended up with a master list of the results for everyone.

There is no evidence whatsoever that MLB got a hold of these results, let alone that anyone in MLB is the source. MLB certainly did not get the results complete with names, they agreed to an anonymous “survey” study to determine the extent of steroid use. The source is obviously someone at the Justice Department involved in the BALCO case.

And as far as the owners being so awful, let’s not forget that there are sources indicating that Orza gave A-Rod advance warning of his 2004 test. Do you think he was working off of the list of “anonymous” test failures and was trying to make sure A-Rod didn’t get caught when the results would become public?

For the record, the mere fact that so-called anonymous testing is being leaked to the media makes the players’ case very strong as to why MLB owners cannot be trusted with medical confidentiality.

While I’m definitely disappointed to hear about this story — the fallout will be tremendously negative for A-Rod and the team — it’s just one more argument for why the owners are the biggest scumbags in the world. They condoned the use of steroids but are more than happy to leave the flaming bag of dogcrap at the feet of the players once they get caught.

A-Rod is totally and completely screwed now. I’m dreading the aftermath of this story.
