The Yankees and Padres continue to search for pitching depth, even with spring training under way, and both are in the bidding for Walter Silva, a 32-year-old right-hander who had a strong showing in the Mexican Winter League, sources said.
Silva is the property of the Monterrey franchise, and went 7-8 with a 4.21 ERA for that team last year. He threw well in winter ball, pitching for Mazatlan; in 16 games, Silva had a 2.54 ERA, allowing 31 hits and striking out 29 in 35 innings.

Considering the Yanks got a very nice AAA/MLB season out of Al Aceves, I’ve got no problem with them going back to the Mexican league for another arm.
The fact that the Padres are interested too is at least mildly encouraging. Those guys have been building good bullpens for the past several years.
But, he’s 32?!?
But, he’s 32?!?

And?
It couldn’t hurt to take a flyer on him.
Sure it could – if it costs something like $500,000 to buy him and he takes innings away from a prospect who could use the development time….and then he stinks in the end.
Really, if he had any potential, WHATSOEVER, do you really think he’d be hanging out in the Mexican league for SEVEN YEARS?

We’ve been through this before, he won’t take time from a developing prospect. Rosters in the minors, and player deployment is different from the majors.
Besides, have you seen the pitchers that have been invited to ML camp? Silva will not make or break anyone’s season.
