Embattled Yankee Alex Rodriguez has had a long relationship with a steroid-linked trainer who’s been banned from major league clubhouses, four independent sources told the Daily News.

Angel Presinal, who was banned from private areas of every MLB ballpark after an October 2001 incident involving an unmarked gym bag full of steroids, has been tight with the Yankee slugger dating back to his time with the Texas Rangers, several sources said.

A former New York-area scout says Presinal, whose named surfaced in the Mitchell Report, was with Rodriguez in New York and Miami as recently as this past fall.

MLB has warned players to stay away from him.

He has been thrown out of clubhouses in Cleveland, Anaheim and Texas.

“He’s an unsavory character,” said a source.

Another source said Presinal accompanied A-Rod for the entire 2007 season, staying in the same hotel as the A.L. MVP, but in a separate room with the “cousin” Rodriguez pegged three days ago as his steroid source from 2001-03.

The cousin was identified Thursday as Yuri Sucart.

The source said Rodriguez avoided being seen in public with Presinal.

“He was around Alex in 2007,” the source said of Presinal. “Every hotel they went to, he stayed in the same room with Yuri. You would never see Alex with [Presinal]. They would meet in one of their rooms.”

Presinal was not around A-Rod and the Yankees during the 2008 season, the source said, but Sucart remained a constant presence around Rodriguez, at home and on the road.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was aware of Presinal’s name but said that the exiled trainer had no official ties to the team.

“He’s never had any association with the Yankees,” Cashman said. “Whether he knows our players or has worked with any of our players, I wouldn’t be able to confirm that.”

A-Rod agent Scott Boras would not comment on his client’s relationship with Presinal, who runs a gym at the Palacio del los Deportes in Santo Domingo. Presinal also did not return multiple calls.

“Several people have warned Alex about this guy,” said a second source.

MLB began monitoring Presinal’s relationships with players after the bag containing five ampules of anabolic steroids, the anabolic drug clenbuterol and hypodermic needles, was seized by the Canadian Border Service Agency in 2001.

Presinal was traveling with the Cleveland Indians, where he was Gonzalez’s personal trainer at the time.

Not the best piece of news for A-Rod today, is it? The question is: Will there be more coming?

If you continued reading the article, you would have seen this:

“In addition to A-Rod, Presinal has worked with some of the game’s biggest stars: Juan Gonzalez, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, Vladimir Guerrero, Bartolo Colon, Miguel Tejada, Adrian Beltre, Moises Alou, Jose Guillen, Ervin Santana, Ruben Sierra, Francisco Cordero, Jose Mesa and Juan Guzman, among others.”

If A-Rod is guilty for working with this man, than all of these other players are too. I understand this doesn’t “help” his situation, and any of these other players didn’t recently have a press conference about PEDs, but come on. This piling on of news is getting a little ridiculous.

Yes. Which is why he should say nothing more about this. Ever.

To me, this was the biggest thing in the report: ~~~~~~Another source said Presinal accompanied A-Rod for the entire 2007 season, staying in the same hotel as the A.L. MVP, but in a separate room with the “cousin” Rodriguez pegged three days ago as his steroid source from 2001-03. ~~~~~~~

Yeah, it’s just a cowinky-dink that Presinal, a known PED pusher, spent the ENTIRE season with A-Rod in 2007….the year where A-Rod had perhaps his greatest season EVER, in a year that just happened to be his opt-out season……

Yeah, it was just one of those things that happened – with no connections between the events. Yeah, I’m SURE…..

Trust me, we have not heard the last of this in terms of the Presinal connection. And, it’s not piling on….it’s pretty big. Given that we’ve already caught A-Rod in one lie from his presser in Tampa (about the PEDs he got coming OTC when a DR doctor just shared that could not happen)…if we find out that A-Rod was lying about post-2003 PED usage, it will be HUGE news…of this I have little doubt.

I believe as part of the current drug testing deal, A-Rod was tested before, during and after 2007. Like I posted before, this man has worked and hangs around with lots of ballplayers.

What lie? Just because a DR doctor says it’s not supposed to happen, doesn’t actually mean it actually couldn’t happen. The DR is not exactly the best place for pharmalogical standards.

And weren’t the media BLASTING A-Rod for “making up” his cousin? What happened to that angle?

Steve, I agree none of this news paints a pretty picture for A-Rod. I also agree more details will start falling through the cracks as days go on. It really seems like the journalistic community is on a full-force raid for information. I am just giving A-Rod the benefit of the doubt right now, which is my choice and something I won’t try to persuade you to do.

It got no attention because they were wrong, so they’re on to the next probe of A-Rod’s personal information. They won’t stop until his name and legacy are completely destroyed.

      _______________

Actually, the Daily News was able to buy the same drugs A-Rod bought in about 5 minutes in the DR. OTC, no prescription.

not exactly hard to buy what A-Rod got. Just goes to show that everyone in the media (obviously not you, Steve, i mean mainstream media) wants to blast A-Rod for everything, without listening to reason.

It seems like Aclod is BSING again judging from what is coming again. According to the new info, Arod even lied in the press conference. Why can’t this guy get his story straight? Look, Aroid brought this all upon himself. He wanted to come out in the open, fine. But once you are out there don’t BS the public. This is really becoming a nightmare very quickly.

I just hope it calms down the “A-ROD WAS LYING ABOUT EVERYTHING” people. Although, at 1:30, I still heard Fat Mike talking about how A-Rod was lying about the availability of steroids in the DR.

What would happen if the media investigated the statements made the last few days by “experts”, and “sources” as thorough as they did A-
      Rod’s statement.

Yesterday not one expert in the DR heard of Bole, today the head of pharmacies in the DR mentioned and clearly knew of Bole. I must have missed the article calling the “experts” liars.

Today the head of pharmacies in the DR says that during 2001-2003 Bole was not “legally” sold in the DR either OTC, or by prescription. Of course the comment is taken as Gospel with not one media person questioning it’s accuracy. A quick trial and guilty verdict are the result. Is it possible that the head of pharmacies either was covering up for how business is really done in the DR, or maybe he had his head in the sand as deep as Bud “McFly” Selig when it comes to steroids. Is the DR that advanced that we blindly assume they would have caught this while all the coaches, managers, trainers, GM’s, owners, and media involved in MLB over the past20 years have not been able to.

How did Presinal hang with A-Rod all those years and no one in the media reported this? If he’s that good at hiding he must be in the CIA, unless of course you think the media was covering for A-Rod. Not. The media has been all over A-Rod for years, I find it unbelievable he could have been a constant companion, with such heavy media coverage of A-Rod.

Not withstanding the above I’m not saying either side is correct, just that there is such a rush to measure A-Rod’s words and no measure at all of any opposite view.

The power of a slanted press!

He’s such a noted steroid supplier that in 2007 when ESPN reported that he was still working with players no one barely said a word.

Now, once again, AFTER the fact, we’re supposed to care.

“In addition to A-Rod, Presinal has worked with some of the game’s biggest stars: Juan Gonzalez, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, Vladimir Guerrero, Bartolo Colon, Miguel Tejada, Adrian Beltre, Moises Alou, Jose Guillen, Ervin Santana, Ruben Sierra, Francisco Cordero, Jose Mesa and Juan Guzman, among others.”

All guilty of using steroids, including Cano who has worked with him and said he would again if he needed to. There, this steroids investigating is easy.
