Anyone know the under/over on Phil Hughes getting injured today?
Steve, I hear you don’t like Phil. What’s the reasoning behind it?

Oh, ok Steve. So when commenters have said you “hate” Phil, they were clearly wrong. You just have a personal issue with him when you look at him; in a way that doesn’t instill confidence or optimism. That’s understandable, I just hope one day he proves you wrong and helps you jump on that bandwagon.

i’d bet Steve hopes the same thing
So Steve, are there any current Yankees you actually “hate?”
Hate is a strong word. I don’t think that I hate any of them.
I personally can’t wait for Damon to be off the team, I don’t “hate” him but I still consider him a red sock

That’s interesting, I always liked him and really, really wanted the Yanks to sign him in 02 and not Giambi. I was very happy when he came over and still like him to this day.

Do you mean a former Red Sox player? Better yet a Red Pox player? Damon has been on so many teams that I don’t hold that against them. Now Clemens was a Red Sox icon through and through and wouldn’t even come here and the younger post 96 frontrunner fans accepted him. Johnny Dampnic is a good clubhouse guy and has the potential to do something this year, so there’s no hating him. He’s a champion and not a troublemaker like some others so he’s alright.
Phil Hughes? Steve your gut is right on him! I’ve seen pitchers come and go on this team since the early 70s and this kid is nowhere near what they promised in terms of the hype. He has shown flashes of brilliance but quite frankly is not what we thought he would be or become. In essence, Joba has developed right out of the chute whereas the failed Hughes/Kennedy experiment of last year is a stinging memory from last year. Between the both of them, there were no wins. The Yanks are no in a position to experiment this year with development after last year’s fiasco, so Pettitte is the fifth starter(Thank God BTW). In essence, Hughes hasn’t lived up to his potential to the point where it actually made sense to some to deal him in a Santana deal.

I’m assuming your calling me a younger post 96 fan (which is almsot true since i started watching full time in 93) but I believe the question I commented on was about current Yankees, and Clemens isn’t a current yankee. I never said i hate damon either, in fact i was pretty specific saying that i dont hate him, i just don’t want him on my team. I will never get that grand slam out of my mind.
so Pettitte is the fifth starter(Thank God BTW).

Pettitte is the 4th start, Joba is the 5th

I don’t hold Damon responsible for that. Our pitching in 04 was just awful, and it was a miracle we were up 3-0 in that series, let alone winning 3 games. Consider these 2004 stats:
Boston: 949 RS, 768 RA (+181 run differential)
New York: 897 RS , 808 RA (+89 run differential)
Obviously the run differential stat doesn’t ensure success, but the Sox pitching and hitting were both more productive than the Yankees. Statistically, run differential is a really good measure of team success so no wonder the Sox found a way to win the series.
So long story short, I didn’t hate Damon for that. I hated Kevin Brown for having to start game 7, I hated Vasquez for serving up a juicy fastball to Damon and I hated Torre for so many reasons during that series and that was one other moment (I would have called on El Duque to start on short rest in Game 7).
so Pettitte is the fifth starter(Thank God BTW).

And how about AJ at #3? Talk about a huge advantage with our 3rd pitcher being AJ Burnett.
thinking about it rationally still doesn’t take the sting away from a 2 homer game from the caveman

hopefully all year too

Very true, i’ll back off that argument.

Agreed. I don;t think any of us can expect a full year and 235 innings from AJ, nor should we. He’ll surely miss some starts, you just hope they don’t pile up.
i know the ST game is on YES, anyone know if WCBS is gonna carry it? (still workin my final days)
Clemens was a red sox, but i would think a yankee fan would look at damon differently due to his DIRECT involvement with beating the yanks in 04 and the sox finally winning a world series. ive never liked clemens as a yankee but i just cant stomach damon and never will

That’s cool, everybody has certain players they like and dislike for various reasons. Me liking Damon doesn’t make me any less of a Yankee fan though, especially since he will be entering his 4th year as a Yankee. What would you say to the millions of Yankee fans that were lobbying to sign Manny Ramirez this offseason? Are they not real Yankee fans? Or is it ok to sign a former Red Sox player if it helps your team, and in turn, may hurt the Sox? Losing Damon didn’t hurt the Sox long term, but they were a significantly weaker team in 2006 without him while we went on and won the division.
I don’t know what it is about Damon but I love him now that he’s a Yank. I hated him in Boston, however. The same would not have been true had we signed Manny. I’ve hated Manny forever and that’ll never change. He’s a douche.

+++++++
Feel the same way. I think it’s because he seems like a good guy, friendly, and plays hard. I can’t believe I’m saying this out loud, but I think the feelings would be the same for Ortiz. He comes off as a good guy, no matter how bad he hurts the Yankees. I hate him, but compare to how I feel about a guy like Schilling, he’s practically my best friend.
2-0 Yanks..both by Sada. Take that Rays, lol
YankCrank:
I NEVER said anything about not being “real” yankee fans if you like or support damon. Im just saying i dont think comparing him to clemens is a fair comparison simply bc they both played for boston. damon’s stint with boston was alot more painful for yankee fans than the 9-10 years clemens was with boston, that was my only statement.
I like Damon cause he plays hard for us and puts up great numbers. I really like him because of his charity. Hes also not a cancer to the clubhouse like we’ve had so often.
I would have called on El Duque to start on short rest in Game 7
—————
Wasn’t going to happen, with 2 days rest and his cranky shoulder. I’m convinced Torre went with Brown over Vazquez because of his postseason experience.
BTW, I have no idea why I’m doing this, but, you can now follow this blog on facebook, whatever that means…
