Whether you, Torre, Bowa, or scouts believe otherwise, it doesn’t change whatever stats are posted. Because the stats are a record of what a player has done in the game. They are *FACTS* they are OBJECTIVE, not OPINIONS, which are SUBJECTIVE.

Um, yeah… Manny signed with the Red Sox in 2001, Ortiz, 2003. Number of times the Red Sox finished ahead of the Yanks? Twice, in 2007 & 2008. So, what does being a “Yankee killer” have to do with anything, exactly?

It’s OK Raf you can spin and the Dodgers can go and play better baseball with Manram. Ask any scout what Manram’s contribution was to the Dodgers, better yet ask people like Torre and Bowa what kind of impact he had. I really don’t think they would even think of pulling a stat that shows a minimal improvement in their team statistically. Torre wanted back because he knows that they are much weaker without him. Get me what the Hollywood beat writers and scouts say and any stat comes to life BUT being that the Dodgers got into the playoffs with Manram that negates any .5 run differntial.

The replacement value for some of these players is a joke. They are good players BUT they “ain’t” Manram. In a big spot, do you want to have Ethier up or Manram? I mean c’mon, there was a question of whether or not Charlie Manuel would pitch to Manram in the playoffs! Um, that’s average runs per game… The offense improved by 1/2 a run on average after Manny showed up. Not as a big a difference as is being made…

You take away Manram and put in a good/nice player like Bay and there is something missing.

I’m sure they said the same thing about Tino & Girardi when they replaced Mattingly & Stanley, that seemed to work out ok

He even had an effect on the Dodger’s offense in terms of the younger guys watching him work and hit like nuts.

I mean would you rather have one year of Manny at 25 or one year of Delgado at 16 mill? Delgado was terrible in the first half of last year, Manny wasn’t. I will admit that Omar did a great job with the bullpen but that was only half of the major adjustment they needed to make. They needed to solve their lack of clutch hitting. Their answer, the Irish Hammer(Dan Murphy)! Manny would have been perfect , if Omar wasn’t such a dolt in regards to signing Castillo(los Metropolitanos’ equivalent to the Igawa singing in terms of idiocy and a waste of money) and Delgado, he could have signed Hudson for a song and have money freed up for Manram. Then again, los Mets like to shop at Marshalls while the Yanks(as obscene and top heavy as their payroll is) they at least shop at Tiffany’s , even though there might be a chink on what they get sometimes!

I also believe that if Manram stayed on the Red Pox they would have had World Series no 3 in 5 years as well. Even IF the money is too much for the mets to spend, dont you think they should feel obligated to their fans to sign Manny as a sign of goodwill? After the way their last two seasons ended they needed to do more than just upgrade the bullpen. I thought they needed to make a statement, and while 25M dollars to Manny for 1 year may be too steep for their payroll or whatever, it wouldnt be a bad way to open the new ballpark and get the fans optimistic again. PLus like i said i couldnt imagine how that team doesnt make the world series with manny in the lineup. Now…they are just another mediocre contender
