In lighter news, Matsui, Joba, and MO all report to be feeling healthy. We still have 24 other guys on this team that can give us a strong start to the season. (If Arods not available)

Are the Rays and Sox having any injury problems or is it just us? I swear it never ends…

anyone else think that we could see Inge in NY by the end of ST?

    4. Corey
      March 6th, 2009 | 9:41 am

i should add, i think hes the kind of guy that could use a change in scenery and he can play third and catch

i agree with that…they mentioned his name in the Post this morning. His versatility as a catcher makes him the ideal candidate i think.

Is Inge a F.A.? or would he need to be traded for?

    7. Corey
      March 6th, 2009 | 11:15 am

traded, but I dont think the Tigers are going to be competitive this year so I could see them parting with him, especially with his down year last year. also i recall Inge having problems with the Tigers management over positions (which is why we got Pudge last year IIRC)

Inge is in his 3rd year of a 4 year, $24 million contract. He’ll make $6.3 million this year and $6.6 million next year. Is it worth taking on $12.9 million for a stopgap player?

    9. Corey
      March 6th, 2009 | 11:18 am

plus hes kind of expensive given the current market and his down year, he might be a good salary dump case

    10. Corey
      March 6th, 2009 | 11:19 am

next year wouldnt be too bad cause they could just not re-sign molina and use Inge as the backup

      March 6th, 2009 | 11:19 am

Even if he fills in for some time then is sent off to the bench, $6+ million a year for a bench player is kind of steep.

      March 6th, 2009 | 11:20 am

lol what contract on this team isn’t steep?

      —–

You can at least justify paying a hefty price for the players who see significant time on the field every day, or ones like Rivera because closers salaries are inflated. But $6+ million for someone who sees 1-2 games a week at best?

I know it doesn’t really “matter” how you pay your players. You can very easily pay somebody $6 million to sit on the bench (which I think the Sox are doing right now with Lugo), but that doesn’t mean i’d prefer it. I don’t call the shots so I can be wrong, but i’d like to think there’s a better option that taking on Inge and his salary.

i dunno, i jsut suggested inge cause it solves a lot of potential problems…i mean its going to be painful if it comes down to a lineup that features 3 hitters out of this group (molina, melky, gardner, cash, ransom (maybe angel berroa))

anyone see any WBC highlights? I was curious to see if Darvish looked as hes been advertised

    16. YankCrank
      March 6th, 2009 | 1:00 pm

I watched some Darvish. He didn’t blow me away

    17. YankCrank
      March 6th, 2009 | 1:08 pm

I certainly wouldn’t drop $50 million to talk to him, that’s for sure

      March 6th, 2009 | 1:11 pm

what kind of pitcher is he? what is his out pitch? Does he throw hard or is he more about hitting spots?

    19. YankCrank
      March 6th, 2009 | 1:15 pm

I couldn’t accurately answer those. He reminded me a lot of Dice-K to be honest, and it has nothing to do with his origin.

His fastball wasn’t overpowering and he used it to hit spots, not to blow people away. His off-speed stuff looked very major league average to me as well, so he struck me as very Dice-K-ish in where he’d spot his fastball when needed, throw a lot of junk and give up a lot of walks. However, it was only 4 innings of a WBC game in March so i’m guessing he has more potential than what I saw.

That, and i’m not a major league scout lol.

i suspect the japanese don’t view it like that

    22. Corey
      March 6th, 2009 | 1:34 pm

i should clarify, i suspect the japanese take the WBC far more seriously than us, and aside from that if i was Darvish i would be in top shape for this showcase to the mlb teams.

Hey Corey, just saw the guys are RAB shoot down your Inge idea. You agree with their assessment or no?

Good idea, Inge is not the greatest player in the world but he is versatile and can be used as a backup. If you get a Rolen, you get 22 mill and two years on his contract and where is he gonna play after Arod comes back? Rolen is also injury prone, just ask his old injury prone teammate , Burnit. Inge is not cheap and he’s not an awesome hitter BUT that was a good call ,Corey. If Cash Man can get him at less than half the price it’s not a bad idea, otherwise it’s a very dicey.

meh, honestly i think the oppurtunity for ABs behind the plate and at 3B is there to keep him happy all year. Plus theres a difference between backing up catching for the Tigers and backing up for the yanks
