Justin – FWIW, I wasn’t making any sexual preference connections/implications. More so, I was just playing on the fact that they’re both (A-Rod and Piazza) “pretty boys” – meaning extremely metrosexual – as opposed to player who doesn’t give a crap about having highlights in his hair, looks gruff when he plays, etc. That’s all. Some players seem more concerned about having a GQ look more than anything else…like Mike and Alex.

And, yeah, you could say that Jeter is a somewhat pretty boy too. But, he gets a pass because his rep as a player is not the same as A-Rod and Piazza – meaning that the rest of the league doesn’t think he’s weak and they actually respect the guy.

Let’s be honest. If this were the year 2000, and Mike Piazza were caught doing this, as Yankees fans, would we be sitting around saying things like it’s just Mike being hilarious and that everyone should leave him alone?

I can only speak for myself, but I would be indifferent to it, as I was during the “Z0MG PIAZZA IZ T3H GHEY!!!11!!!!1″ episode…

Unless a player does something stupid (Joba’s drunk driving charge, Pascual’s drug suspension), or does something worth reporting (Munson’s plane crash, Lyman Bostock murdered), or even something positive (Mo Vaughn’s charity work), I really don’t pay too much attention to it.

Good point. Everyone would be ragging on Piazza and taking shots at his sexuality. That being said, people didn’t hate Piazza the way they hate A-Rod.

I fully admit that it would be best if A-Rod just kept himself out of the public eye for a short while. As much as I believe that he gets ripped on for no good reason, this magazine/photo spread isn’t doing him any favors. In contrast with many other stories about him which are unfair and target him needlessly, this is something he chose to do and thus any fallout or mockery that comes of it is something he has to live with.
