The new design — and especially the new mode of commenting — is killing me. If we can’t see how many comments are up without clicking on the column header, it’s hard to know if there’s a conversation going on.

Considering the fact that I typically comment on multiple threads, yes, it stinks to not be able to see if there are new comments right there on the main page as before.
Steve, you seem to have gotten really offended by my comment. I’m not trying to offend you and don’t mean to. Maybe it just takes getting used to the new format. All I’m saying is that I preferred the old format. If my honesty on the topic is upsetting to you, I apologize and I won’t say anything further on the subject. Frankly, I just viewed it as constructive criticism.

I sort of agree. It certainly isn’t enough to make me stop commenting on this site, but it does make it more difficult/less enjoyable to comment.
I know that you may not be able to control all aspects of the design, but, if possible, you find a better format you should use it.
It’s cool, as long as we have the “recent comments” feature.
Sorry MJ. I haven’t really slept since Thursday night – spending most of my nights trying to fix the theme issue. (Because of ‘life,’ the only time I have to work on this stuff starts at 10 pm, most nights, and I’ve been working on this stuff until 1 am, or 3 am some nights, and that’s a killer when you have to get up at 6 am everyday.)
First, people were upset because the new theme was running slow – due to all the bells and whistles. And, now, that I’ve found another theme that loads quicker, people are upset because it doesn’t have something else….I feel like I can’t win.
I’m just added “Recent Comments” to the left menu. I think that solves the issue of anyone not being able to know what’s been commented on recently, no?
Steve, I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t slept because of the WW issue. Like I said, I wasn’t trying to offend or upset you and I’m sorry if I did.
No sweat. So, is it easier with the recent reader posts on the left?
i like it, but as web site traffic builds over time it’ll be a fruitless feature
