Actually, Marte probably could do the 8th inning set-up job, if the Yanks let him/needed him to.

With the Pirates last season, 37 of his 50 appearances were 1 inning or longer, including 7 save chances, of which he convered 5. He must've faced some righties in those.

His numbers vs. righties last season were .196/.278/291, actually better than his numbers vs. lefties. In 2007, it was the other way around; he was much, much, much better vs. lefties.

For his career, his BAVG/OBA/SLG line vs. righties is .236/.326/.386. Not dominant, but not terrible, either. Considering his domination of lefties (.200/.297/.287), he could probably do the set-up job, short-term, and then the Yanks would have to promote Coke to "LOOGY", and use him as needed in the 6th or 7th, as they used to use Graeme Lloyd, while using Stanton as their main 8th inning guy. (Stanton made 47 appearances after Mariano came off the DL to close in 1998. In 34 of them, he pitched more than one inning.)

In short, your top lefty should be able to deal with righty hitters on a reasonable basis; your top lefty reliever should not be the bullpen LOOGY. Being the LOOGY is the 2nd lefty's job.

If true, who sets up for Mo Rivera?

Hint: I dunno, but the answer is NOT some guy from Nebraska.
