    Via Ken Rosenthal:

The Yankees are telling clubs that they are open to moving outfielder Melky Cabrera, who would be a perfect fit for the White Sox.

Four days ago, I kinda/sorta called this. But, I had him going to Milwaukee rather than Chicago.

Hey, I was only off by about 90 miles…

So this would indicate that Gardner has locked down the CF job, no?

Seems having Melky around, even if its in Scranton would be a good safety net in case Brett implodes.

Agreed. But I think Melky’s out of options so sending him to Scranton may not be possible.

That being said, the Yanks have Damon and Swisher who can both play CF in a pinch if necessary. I’d rather see the Yanks carry more help in the infield while A-Rod’s out and Ransom is forced into the starting lineup.

If Melky is traded, it means Swisher will get some games (against tough lefies) for Gardner in center.

Hmmmm….Swisher in center…uhhhh, you know, I’m not so sure that’s a good idea, Jim.

As stated herein, Melky’s out of options, so, no way he goes to AAA. I had a feeling that Girardi’s always been a Gardner fan. It was probably his job to lose this spring…

Safety-net? It will probably be Damon – with Swisher going to LF…

I agree with Corey that after his Granny the other night, we may be seeing AJAX very soon in the Bronx.

Melky is kinda like the odd man out on this team. They have too many people that play the outfield. Are the Pale Hose a good fit? Melkman might not be a bad fit for them. The thing is….what does Kenny Williams want to give up for him?

As for the AJAX fans on the board, why would the team rush this kid? As much as I rip Cash Man, why would he put AJAX on the Major League squad this year? Gardner would have to flop, Melky has to be traded, would Damonic or Swish play(god forbid, but they are veterans who have played the position before) center instead ? There are too many people in front of him right now to make room for AJAX. I don’t see it….

Steve good call on Girardi’s preference for Gardner. Everytime I hear General Joe speak about Gardner it is in glowing terms. It is obvious from his statements that General Joe likes BG’s speed a ton.
