lol yankscrak…your pirates lost to Manatee Community College last night (even tho its an exhibition, still)
FYI, if the site seems faster today, there’s a reason. I took down the Commentators Leader Board (post count) plugin (that used to be on the left). Turns out that the query behind it was taking forever to run and impacting the response time of the site.

But now the blog won’t be able to track my march towards 3,000 hits…I mean comments.
Thats okay..I was feeling shamed that I wasnt on there, lol

Good call. The velocity is up and that is a good thing.I notices that there were some minor problems especially yesterday. The amusing thing about that Board was seeing how many posts bailey did and thinking about his sudden absence…….

Haha, how embarrassing! This is me being happy that i’m no longer a useless, pencil-pushing compartment of their organization.
The speed of the site sort of confused me….
For some reason WW always loaded quickly on my computer, a 4 year old Mac Powerbook. But it always was really slow on my friends new Mac Powerbook. Couldn’t figure out why it would be much faster on an older computer with less memory. Either way, I’m glad you got the site working faster, Steve.
hey steve, you should tell whomever does the site to cache the leaderboard that way its just as fast and its still on the site
cause i’d guess whomever wrote the query has it calculate the total number of posts via addition everytime on page load which would cause everything to slow up.
cause if you think about the way it was working, it had to:
calculate the total number of posts for EVERY user that has EVER registered and posted a comment here
then:
sort it by number of comments
anyone else hate the new baseball-reference layout?

Yes, I do. It literally hurts to look at that page…I had always preferred Fan Graphs anyway so now I won’t feel guilty not going to BR at all.

IMO, the expanded information makes it worth figuring out a new layout. And it’s not as though b-ref was ever the prettiest site to look at in the first place.
yea but u’d think if your gonna put 1 year worth of work into somethin that’d you’d have a sleak design…or at least a color scheme that’s easier on the eyes
