The Last Time The Yanks Opened At Camden Yards April 11th: Global Yankees Jersey Day
Apr 06

At this moment, there’s a 42% chance of rain, at game-time, for the Yankees ‘09 opener against the Orioles. Knowing this, I wonder if General Joe will once again try the “Save-A-Starter” trick that he attempted with Ian Kennedy and Brian Bruney during Game 9 of last season?

It would be a shame to lose CC Sabathia’s first start due to him starting in bad weather and then having to come out, or have the game called, because of rain. In any event, that’s today’s wild thought.

What do you think – should Girardi try it again, today, given the weather forecast?

That experiment again? It seemed like a counterintuitive Bill James kinda move actually.Girardi certainly was thinking outside the box but it seems that a certain accomodation was made for Kennedy being such a neophyte. CC is the type of pitcher that wants to take the ball, witness the three day rest situation (pitching down the stretch) with the Brewers lat year. Hopefully, said experiment won’t be revisited again……

Being opening day, I doubt it, but I think it should come down to the weather. If it’s supposed to rain on and off for the first few innings, I could see him do it, but if it’s supposed to clear and rain again (which I think is the case), then you throw CC. We have good guys if you have to pull him. Coke for 2 or 3, Alby for 2 or 3, and you’re all good (hopefully)!
