Mark Melancon…should be any day now…

i’d say you’re going to wait a bit longer…they’d have to clear a roster spot for him…plus who do you send down? If anyone should be off the team my vote would go to Veras because he’s so unreliable (can be lights out one second then can’t find the strike zone for the next minute) but at this point its too early in the season, and he did do a decent job last year and probably deserves at least another chance…I’m happy they called up robertson in nady’s spot tho

Yea..I liked Roberston alot last year. As for Veras, i do think he deserves some chances, its just that this is 2 games where he has played a substantial part in blowing. If our bullpen gives up 0 runs in the KC game and yesterday we’d be 7-3, not 5-5

hopefully Mo will take him under his wing again and help him out

While he’s at it, maybe Mo should work with Marte too. He’s been atrocious as a Yankee:

      20.1 IP, 7.52 ERA, 4.86 HR/9

I told ya it would be sooner rather than later. It’s still early no doubt about that, but it seems that one early lesson this season is that the bullpen is the soft underbelly/achilles heel of this team. Cash Man will try to fix it with callups and trades if it persists and judging from the performance of the bullpen it’s getting late early……….

Nonsense. You can’t judge a bullpen after 10 games.

I agree MJ..the early losses have been frustrating, but the Sox and especially the Rays arent showing a whole lot of early bullpen success either. Also, I see we’ve sent Robertson back down and called up Miranda.

I’m not as worried about the bullpen as I am our lineup. How much longer are we going to trot out a bottom of the order like today: Melky, Ransom, Gardner.

Anybody miss A-Rod yet? Does anybody actually care about his escapades anymore? I hope the Yankee fans who have the hardest time dealing with these losses are the ones who boo A-Rod, or judge him by his NY Post headlines rather than his on-field production.

Agreed. A-Rod’s return will be good for the lineup.

I may not have liked him personally but Nady’s injury wasn’t good for the ballclub. Having a Nady/Swisher type of bat on the bench was a big positive and that depth will be missed. Juan Miranda can’t carry Nady’s/Swisher’s jock unfortunately.

I hear ya Crank. With that bottom 3 plus Matsui’s ineffectiveness, Arod cant come back soon enough. Even if his Cousin drives him, Madonna, 5 strippers and Cynthia all to game at same time!

Ok, Miranda’s “replacing” Matsui who has water on the knee. Courtesy of WFAN with a HT to Bronx Banter.

As good as he was for his first contract, he’s been horrendous on this second contract. It’s a shame because I really liked the guy but ever since that injury on the sliding catch in 2006, he’s been a trainwreck.

Also – that Deadspin image is priceless.

dont be shocked lol…he had to get a cortisone shot to the wrist, and it looks to be affecting his hitting…i’d rather him go on the dl for 15 days get the wrist strong then be less than his best all year

      April 17th, 2009 | 12:11 pm

Yea, i agree with that, lets just hope he doesnt have to. I want him and Arod in the lineup together as long as possible.

    20. April 17th, 2009 | 2:26 pm

100 pitches thru 4 for Joba today. That’s 19 per inning. CC was at ~20 pitches per inning yesterday. Dave Eiland, what’s up dude?

Not exactly Joba’s best day today…

Correct me if I’m wrong, but, didn’t the Indians suck, so far this year, before they started playing the Yankees?

Victor Martinez has done well against the Yanks but he doesn’t scare me like vintage Papi/Manny used to. V-Mart can be pitched to, the 2003-2005 versions of Papi/Manny couldn’t be pitched to.

they may not be hitting with RISP, but at least they’ve been making come backs this year (unlike last year when once they lost the lead you felt like that was it)

Nonsense. You can’t judge a bullpen after 10 games.

I always admit that it’s early BUT no one can tell me that this bullpen is the second coming of Stanton/mendoza/Nelson. This simply isn’t the same bridge to Mariano. I think it would be nonsensical to be unrealistic and pragmatic about how good this bullpen is. Nice job, today BUT this ain’t the best bridge to Mo…..

BTW, MJ you can you judge Jeter after ten games? It might be early BUT ST Derek has a track record. He looks pretty good to me. Trying to signal his early demise and his being a drawback is not only nonsense is it sheerly delusional.
