please not hughes. too important to the future. he has never had any extended time at AAA to put up good numbers, work on the things he knows he needs to work on to get big league hitters out, and build confidence through both of these excercises. every time the yankees have a need in april, it can’t just be hughes, otherwise we run the risk of ending up in the same place 2007 and 2008 comes up. if hughes is still blowing away AAA like he has these first three starts (or anything close) in june/july, then let’s talk about him. until then, anybody but him.

I’m not a big Hughes fan BUT it’s put up or shut up time for him. No more coddling.Look, he was part of the failed Hughes/Kennedy Experiment of 2008 but the team needs him now. Despite the fact that I’m no Hughes booster, he’s better than Wang right now. Then again, anything is better than Wang right now!And I wonder if Hughes is still wearing the glasses after last year. We’ll see soon enough….

corey – not exactly sure who i’d go with. the more i think about it, the more my comment above may have been a little reactionary (this after me in the comments section below telling people to relax about the ticket situation after 6 games). maybe it is time for hughes to learn what he has to learn at this level. after the 2007 fiasco where we called his number way too soon, and then last year, i’m concerned about giving him a chance to develop without constantly being shuttled around. the talent to get big league hitters out in a major way is there, and has been since at least 2007, so i understand the temptation to go to him as early as they did that year. but i’m also concerned about his long term development, and even though he almost undoubtedly (given the other options) gives us the best chance to win tuesday night, if it’s really the right thing for he and the team.

Either Hughes or Kennedy will get the call. Johnson has some weird peripherals which will be exposed if/when he gets to the majors. Aceves had a good year last season but looking at his FIP, he did it with smoke and mirrors. I would be absolutely shocked if Igawa got the call (and since calling him up requires him to be put on the 40-man, I don’t see it happening).
It’s Hughes or Kennedy with a slight nod to Hughes.

i didn’t answer your question, and i guess my answer is i don’t like any of the other options, either. i’m just nervous about making the same mistake with hughes too many times in a row, and really hurting his development. 10-15, every fifth day, healthy, uninterrupted starts at AAA, where there is no pressure and he can do what he needs to do, and work on what he needs to work on, isn’t be the worst thing in the world, in my opinion.

and i guess i’m in the overwhelming minority here haha. oh well, i hope he comes up and never goes back down, like that scout predicted in the spring after observing. really want him to succeed, and just want the organization to put him in the best position to do so.
