From a Yankees fan perspective, could this game and the one from yesterday be any worse?

Before the start of this series, I was asked by NESN.com to answer some questions about the Yankees and these games against the Red Sox. Here’s a clip from that Q&A:

NESN.com: What are the keys for the Yankees to winning the three-game series at Fenway Park?

Steve Lombardi: The Yankees starting pitchers all need to go at least seven innings and provide a decent start. If the Yankees’ pen is coming into the game in the sixth inning or earlier, that’s trouble for New York. And the Yankees pitchers have to be careful with Kevin Youkilis and Jason Bay, while also not allowing David Ortiz to wake up this season when the Yanks come to town.

So, how was that for soothsaying?

Let’s hope that Andy Pettitte has his “A” game on Sunday night. Right now, the Yankees need that…and then some.

Not to say that I told you so BUT Burnett has been maddeningly inconsistent in his career. BUT what shocked me was that he flopped against a team he was so dominant against. What happened? No Doc Hallday or Arnsberg to back him? Kay and Kim Jones keep parroting this bull that AJ likes the big stage, guess what YES toadies he never pitched a big game in his entire bloody life! He had a 6-0 lead and that wasn’t enough? I hope that this is an analomy and I want him to do well, but this was not unexpected to say the least……

Steve , the first game was the Yankees to lose. The factor that blew it was Mo’s blowing the save pure and simple. He gets it done, the Yankees have one in the win column and we are not talking about two Yankee losses. But I definitely agree with your prescient statement regarding game 2. Burnit really looked good and then blew up and of course, the on and off again bullpen didn’t help….
