The way I remember that deal was that the Red Sox were looking for anyway possible to DUMP Manny because of his insubordinate attitude, salary and desire to get his options wiped and become a free agent at the end of the year. Steve, you’re right on this one. quite frankly, the Red Sox wanted to get rid of him years ago BUT his behavior became so insane that they had had enough. He had become a clubhouse cancer par excellence.The Sox paid Manny’s salary to get rid of him! That was a lot of moneyv to remove a player from a team.
