Major League Baseball is expected to announce Thursday that Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and will be suspended for 50 games, The Los Angeles Times is reporting.

Ramirez’s suspension is expected to be announced Thursday, The Times said.

Triple-A outfielder Xavier Paul has been told by the Dodgers that he will be promoted later today, according to The Times.

Well, this should take the spotlight off A-Rod for a day or two…

Nah, it will probably be blamed on A-Rod.

Wrong! It’s Ca$h Man ‘s fault! He gave Big Floppi and Manram roids in order to undermine the Yanks, I’m sure of it! :) Now Manram claims that it’s medication that he needed from a doctor. Didn’t Paul Byrd take HGH for a tooth problem? That was a big crock of bullshit to say the least! What is Big Floppi going to say, he was on medicated Slimfast the last 6 years?

One thing I hope this doesnt devolve into is “the Red Sox cheated to win titles.” I didnt like it when said about the Yankees, and I wouldnt like it now. Everyone was doing it. That being said, you gotta be pretty stupid to get caught under the current testing system.

The upshot is that I don’t have to hear about how Joe Torre is a genius. His 2008 team was a sloppy .500 ballclub pre-Manny and will stagger into mediocrity again for the next 2 months. Have fun surfing, St. Joe.

Thought I saw a report that said it was not steriods that Manny tested positive for…but, some other banned substance…and it was not something like or pot. Maybe it was Knotty Boy Dread Wax?

Manny said it was something his doctor gave him for a personal medical issue. Whatever it was, he’s taking the rap for it and has waived his appeal. No matter what it was, the fact that he waived his appeal tells me that the truth is somewhere between “honest mistake” and “flat-out juicing.”

I think there’s an interesting point here that hasn’t yet been mentioned. Joe Torre has been the manager for arguably three of the four highest profile PED users ever in baseball (Clemens, Manny, A-rod). All of whom allegedly used while playing on his team. Does he deserve any blame? Does this even deserve mention? I’m not sure, but it’s an interesting point.

come on now..do u really think Torre told these dudes to shoot up?

I’m not saying that at all, I just think it’s interesting that all three played for him while allegedly doping. I don’t think he deserves blame, but I thought it was worth a mention, if only to spark conversation.

Not really. Look at JC Romero, who failed a test for a OTC supplement that he got clearance to use.

FWIW, given the competition in the NL West this year, the Dodgers would be hard pressed not to repeat.

Indeed. Lousy division. But it’s the same division as last year and LA could barely get above .500 until Manny showed up. I still figure they’ll win it but this should encourage the D-Backs to step it up a bit.

I’m not a steroids expert, but if that Yahoo report is correct, it sounds almost like something someone who was formerly a big steroid user would be doing to “correct” their body after shooting it full of testosterone. Basically, once you start chemically aiding your body, your body will no longer naturally produce testosterone and once you quit taking steroids, it leads to problems like the ones Manny has reportedly experienced. In other words, I’m guessing he’s been using, heavily, for a long, long time. Just guessing, mind you, because again, I’m no expert.

More like one day, because A-Rod is back tomorrow to take the spotlight back from Manny.
