A scout’s opinion on A-Rod, so far this season, via Jayson Stark -

Once again, the great scouting minds out there tell us what they’re seeing:

…On Alex Rodriguez: “His defense has been terrible. He doesn’t look like he could move off a dime. He’s a dead-stand-up stationary third baseman right now. But his biggest problem, I think, is at the plate. He can’t get to the low, outside fastball or the slider away. He normally takes those balls the other way, but he can’t get there. And as word gets around the league, he may have more holes than he’s ever had.”

…he may have more holes than he’s ever had…

Well, Alex always has been a bit of a playa, no?

Joking aside, scouts have been wrong in the past, right? So, we’ll just have to wait and see…

But, it will be interesting to look back at this, say, at the end of June and determine just how well this scout is at his job…and how Alex is performing at that time.

    Still spirng training for Alex.

    5 games.

Let’s see how he looks after 20, with additional rehab work on the hip.

  2. Corey Says:

he can’t generate enough bat speed with his hips only 3 months removed from his surgery? what the hell is wrong with this guy

  3. throwstrikes Says:

He looked like he got to the outside fastball on his first AB tonight. If anything a litle too soon. 16 ABs is too small a sample size to be making predictions from.

I agree that ARod does not look good, especially in the field. The question is: is he healing and getting better? I would like to see him DH for the next week, and give him a healing opportunity.

[...] Wang (officially) making another Triple-A start / A-Rod full of holes? [...]

  6. MJ Says:

This report from ESPN is just the kind of bullshit that drives me crazy. But, no, ESPN’s not biased in any way. Of course not. Beause they constantly solicit scouting opinions for other guys 1 week removed from hip surgery and rehab. Asinine.

  7. Sicilian Lou Says:

Are you sure this wan done by some scout and not Peter the RED SOX loving Gammons?

What a keen sense for the obvious this scout has.. funny how he fails to mention that A-Rods surgery has nothing to do with his performance.. Its one thing to knock A-Rod and his antics, but to knock any ball player coming off surgery less than 3 months and not mention how its effecting his performance is just bias…..
Hmmm.. wonder if this is the same scout who noticed David Wrights hitting slump?…

  8. Sicilian Lou Says:

Hey Steve… Can you do us Yankee fans a favor.. and save this report?.. Like you say come June I can’t wait to shove this laughable report down his throat,, Hopefully he chokes on these words too…

I’m sure it will be available in ESPN’s archives…
