I was hoping to see him in this awful game against Anaheim, but it was Delcarmen fated to lose this. No way does the pitching deserve the blame - three for 23 with runners in scoring position, and Ortiz oh for seven and stranding 12 all by himself? That's just a crushing way to lose. And with the Yanks winning, we probably miss two chances to pick up on the Jays and the Yanks will get closer and closer. Ugh.

Guess it will make for a more exciting pennant race though, and that's what we live for, right?

@ OnceIWasAYankeeFan:
The kid did impress me to say the least... Now I have to figure out how we can counter this one two punch.. The way I worry about the Yankees you think they pay me!!!.... But, let me know when you get to see Bard yourself.. I would be very interested to see what your thoughts are....

I didn't hear about Javy.. and I agree smart move on the sox part for sticking with Jones.. If they don't have anything more to prove in the minors you have to stick them with the big club.. after all, how else will they learn?.. That's what the Yankee did for all those years in the 90's... We had a top kid come up and he stood.. Take your lumps kid but in a year you will be better for it and so will the ball club... Now, I shake my head and ask what happen to the plan???.. Ohh yeah that's right.. The Red Sox stole it from us and they aren't giving it back!!.. LOL...
Good chatting with you dude.. hopefully we can have many more conversation in the future!....

Lou, as a friend used to say on another board I visit, CLASP! :)

Its funny the way you describe his breaking pitch because I heard it as more of a slider, definitely not that kind of big break. But he can throw strikes with it, and as long as he does, the combination with his heater should make him very tough. I like how Tito handles the bullpen too and what really surprised me was that they cut Javier Lopez loose. If there's any blind spot its keeping certain useless guys longer than needed. When I heard Bard was called up, I figured the rookie, Jones, was being sent down. Nice to see them be smart and cut loose the weakest link. And the pen should only be better when Masterson returns.

I think right now you’ll see him follow Masterson’s path - easing into major league experience, but by the end of the year probably pitching some very high-leverage innings. What pleases me so much right now is that Ramirez looks so good, as does Delcarmen and Okajima has been in a groove, too. Its really been the saving grace since the starters have been so mediocre to bad outside of Wakefield. So they don’t need Bard to take over the eighth inning, but I think you’re right, he could be in that spot before too long.
Long term I do believe he is the closer because of Papelbon’s desire to “set the mark” for relievers. I got the love/hate relationship with the guy because I think he’s a moron and his desire for Mariano dollars (or more) is ridiculous but he’s been such a great closer, you deal with the rest. I can see Bard taking over as soon as Papelbon reaches free agency.
Would be tremendous though if they managed to keep both of them!
BTW, did it really look like a curveball? I heard it was more of a slurve.

My friend, you have just become my favorite person in this room!!.. Great POST!!...
I respect the Red Sox ,their players and their loyal fans.. Not the ones that just found out baseball is played in beantown. I think we both know who they are!!..... LOVE Terry.. but who doesn't!...

yup the whole bullpen for Red Sox have been just about lights out.. Terry does a nice job with that group and seems to get the most out of them......

To answer your question.. Looked like a 12 to 6 breaking ball.. that's what NESHD said... but at first it looked like a slider than I seen the speed.. but they called it his curve.. But hey.. does it really matter?.. Another thing that will keep me up at nights worring!!!...

I haven’t seen the clips but he did pretty good for coming into a three run game with second and third, striking out the first guy, Napoli, who gave him some props afterward, then allowing a sac fly. I heard that the gun only touched 97 but everyone seemed to agree that the Anaheim gun is slow.
I just wish it had been a better game situation to bring in Bard after Wake. Gotta be even tougher to go up against an upper 90s fastball after facing the floater for three ABs.

I was watching the game on MLB on my computer.. So i got to see him on NESHD,,, I was impressed with his composure and curve ball.. But then again after touching high 90's.. an 85 mph curve can make anyone look foolish.. Gave up a single to Figgins.. but after that.. LIGHTS OUT!!.. Where do you figure they use him?.. 8th inning to bridge to Pab?.. That will be trouble for us Yankee fans... Kid look good!!.. And if they use him right, which I know Terry will, they have the making of a very tough back end of the bullpen for years to come...
