Speaking of throwing things, I was at last Thursday’s game when Mo gave up back-to-back jacks in the 9th. I was front row bleachers section 203 and some guy down in front was brave enough to wear a sox hat, and wear it backwards so the bleacher creatures could see it. Very funny…guy was able to take the abuse until the 5th when a guy had a perfect pizza throw and hit him right on top of his ugly hat…covering it with sauce. Fun times.

Any fan who who wears a rival hat to a game their not playing in is asking for it. I went to an O’s/Rangers game and wore a UT hat. Now..I do plan on sporting the NY when I catch the Giants/Cards in a few weeks. Harmless right?

He sure isn’t making it easy on himself…. You got to feel for this guy.. It was a horrible mistake he did and it cost the life of another human being..
But, I pray and hope he and his family can survive another crises like this..

      Hey Raf you there?..

Got a question…. Do you think Athletes are a product of their upbringing or the life style of becoming rich and famous?….

Ever wonder what makes A-Rod and Jeter so different off the field?..

What if you’re going to Fenway for a concert? I’m going at the end of the month and was considering wearing my Yankees cap.

It’s a Phish show, so I’m not anticipating any flack, but who knows what a Sox fan with a head full of acid is capable of.

It’s a combination of the two, I think. The upbringing is the foundation, the lifestyle is the “building” that goes on the foundation.

I don’t know what makes Jeter & Rodriguez different off the field. We have seen athletes from different backgrounds and upbringings act different. Look at how Clemens interacted with his mother, how Jeter interacts with his parents, how Chamberlain interacted with his father, how Swisher interacted with his grandparents.

    16. Sicilian Lou
      May 15th, 2009 | 11:53 am

      Interesting thoughts..

I read somewhere that Jeter’s parents had him sign a contract on his school studies if he wanted to play ball.. He had to maintain a certain grade in HS or no baseball.. Jeter grew up with both parents.. And for the most part has not been involved with any off the field antics.. But then again his night life was not exactly squeaky clean but compared to others he pretty much keeps a low profile….
A-Rod.. well, he was missing that dominate male figure in his life. his mother raised him.. Baseball was a big part of his childhood but more less he pretty much was on his own… He never bonded with his dad later in life and if I am not mistaken, they don;t speak till this very day…Although he had to be a smart kid.. University of Miami is no Duke when it comes to academics but still not exactly an easy school to get accepted into..

I guess what I am trying to get to is…. if A-Rod grew up in Jeter’s stable home environment, would he be the same guy today or would things be different?..

who he be this wreak-less with his life or would he be a dominate ballplayer who keeps his personal life out of the tabloids?

Personally, I think Rodriguez was always this way, but because of “$252M/10YR” he’s a target, has been and always will be after signing that contract, fairly or not.

Mind you, there have been other players that have signed big contracts, there have been other players that have done similar or worse things off the field, but Rodriguez gets all the press.

Anyway, to answer your question, I see no reason why Rodriguez would change if he were raised in Jeter’s household. As you said yourself, Jeter’s nightlife isn’t squeaky clean, but at the same time, he doesn’t have people going out of their way to get “stuff” on him.

I thought Steinbrenner’s lust for Winfield and his foundation was bad, this is on a whole ‘nother level.

Yup.. you made a few good points.. the conclusion is that no matter what A-Rod does or doesn’t do.. he is news and will be hunted for more… Lock the door and draw the shades.. The hounds are out of the cage… He might best serve himself well by not speaking to the media the rest of his playing career….

I’ll be at Jones Beach 6/2, 6/4 (if I can score a ticket, got an extra MJ?), and unfortunately I can’t make it to 6/5 b/c of a wedding.

I’ll also be at The Gorge 8/7 and 8/8, Darien Lake 8/13, Hartford 8/14, Columbia, MD 8/15, and finishing the tour in Saratoga 8/16.

I’ll be wearing my Joba jersey to most of the shows, so if you see 62, be sure to say what’s up.

You got to feel for this guy as a human being.. He is his own worst enemy and most of this non-sense is his own fault..

But when does it end?.. Where does the line get drawn between responsible journalism and out right harassment?…

You do an interview and the words and message get twisted.. You try to clarify it and that gets twisted…

Love hate relationships always end bad… Unfortunately, the bad will sticks with A-Rod….. No merchandise endorsement will fade away his roids use… No beauty pageant queen will fade away his divorce.. And what seems to be a selfish person in the club house, well Jeter himself couldn’t discredit the rumors…

I wonder if there is a hole big and deep enough for him to escape?..
Lets hope A-Rod the ball player can over come A-Rod the human being…….

And maybe one day soon he will finally realize that baseball was just a small part of his life and other things in life are much more important…

Nice tour schedule. I’m doing 6/4 & 5 at Jones Beach and then the next two nights (Boston & Philly). Good for you for getting Gorge!

As for 6/4, I might have a lead on an extra. How can I get in touch with you? Would rather not conduct commerce on Steve’s site.
