A bit garish, but not awful. What dont you like in particular?

    2. May 19th, 2009 | 10:23 pm

It’s just going to be strange to see the Yankees, playing at home, in their white uni’s with the navy pinstripes…wearing scarlet red caps.

I dont recall, have they ever played with the color of the cap before?

      Hideous in my opinion.

      @ yagottagotomo1:
Yes, they wore special caps in Virginia Tech’s colors last year.

    6. May 20th, 2009 | 9:35 am

Yeah, but, the V-Tech game was an exhibition. FWIW, IIRC, they did wear a USA-flag-NY hat sometime last year – - but it was on a blue cap, not a red one.

      @ Steve Lombardi:
True. I just meant the Yanks have messed with the color of their cap before, regardless of whether or not the game counted.

atrocious…the v-tech game was an exhibition, they can wear whatever they want then, but not when it counts…IMO

These are pretty ugly, but a portion of the proceeds go to a good cause, so it’s hard to really hate on them. I would have preferred the regular Navy blue with just the “NY” doctored, but ah well.

And I would have been fine with the V-Tech hats during a reg. season game, or even Pink hats during mother’s day. Both would have been for worthwhile causes.

Not a fan. It was on July 4th that they manipulated the interlocking NY to be filled with stars and stripes and it might have been a different shade of blue.

i dont even like the patch they have on the back of the current hats, so this definitly doesn’t make me happy lol

      @ Steve Lombardi:

Me don’t like at all.. Reminds me of some cheap design with all flash and no CLASS… What next rhinestones???… Just awful…..
and Steve.. FYI.. The Yankee blue is actually Mid-Night Blue.. which is my favorite color….Not Navy… LOL..

Me either! I don’t like when they mess with hat. It’s too iconic. Throw as many patches on the sleeves of the jersey as you want. Leave the hat alone.

Just to remind others here.. The inter-locking NY on the Yankee cap is a tribute to the FIRST NY POLICE OFFICER in NY killed in the Line of duty.. Call me sentimental but one should not tamper with tradition!!.. IMO…
The Rocket scientist who came up with this idea should be fired and the guy who approved it should be hung up by his neck tie.. Shame on you for not remembering this!!!…

You guys realize that they’re doing this with all the teams in MLB, right? It’s not just a Yankee thing.

Thus, the Yankee should show better class and not follow what others do.. We should lead by example and stick to the tradition.. and remember what the NY truly means to us Yankee fans.. IMO…

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these hats will go to the WBV fund.

      From MLB.com
Welcome Back Veterans (WBV) is an initiative launched by Major League Baseball and the McCormick Foundation to raise public awareness about issues facing today’s veterans, and to raise funds to support programs and services that these returning soldiers need to repair and restore their lives.

I get that they’re ugly. I get that you’re all for the tradition of the hat and the logo, but this is a VERY temporary thing, that all MLB is doing, to raise money for a worthwhile cause. Give it a break.

I had no idea that was the reason.. No mention of it on the web site nor in Steves post.. So, I will make a nod and say its for a worthy cause..
Thank You for pointing that out…

No worries. Everyone here has their heart in the right place. If they’re going to screw with the uni, at least they’re doing it for a good cause.

I don’t get the big deal. It’s a red Yankee cap. I think that we, as fans, some times get too caught up in this kind of stuff.

YUP!!… believe me.. If I had know from the beginning, I would be on board a lot quicker.. I just thought this was some publicity stunt.. But Thanks again for pointing that out.. Hey Steve, you should re-title this post and Say, Yankees change caps for the Good of the Vets.. IMO…

Well, to some purist like me it is.. If not for the cause this is providing, I don’t think it’s the right move nor does it send the right message… To me it would appear the Yankees are marketing some flimsy hat that is the hottest trend in sports..No offense, but, I rather leave the latest fashion in clothes and sports apparel to the fashion police….Some things are just best left alone in a tradition sense…. On another note.. Would you want to see Pro Golfer in shorts?…

      Ugh…as in ugly.

Still, it’s for a worthy cause, so, go ahead and wear it.
