If the Yankees would promise to have a game like this one…for all 162 of their contests in a season…I would swear to never get bored with the outcome…and, for sure, I would sleep well each night during the baseball season.
Nice to see A.J. Burnett start to work things out. Even nicer to see Hideki Matsui blast two big flies. I never get tired of watching Godzilla crush a baseball. Actually, even though this one was a laughter of sorts, there were many pleasant things to see in it…sans Jose Veras, of course.
But, most importantly, it’s a good game to win. Next, the Yankees have to play in Cleveland for four, then they have seven at home against Texas and Tampa, and then they have to head to Fenway for three and then come home for another three against the Mets. That’s not an easy 17 game run. Better to be coming off “two out of three wins” before that one – than to be coming off “four out of six losses” (which would have been the case if not for this win).

That’s “1st-place Yankees“, if you please.
Well, tied, anyway.

Right, but you have to remember, if the Yankees had lost all 27 of their wins, which they easily could have done, they’d be 0-47 and the worst team in baseball, not in first place.

I am sure that there was some “lucky” aspect to this win…..there could be no other explination for the Yankees winning this series against the AL West leading team….no other explination…..
This was actually the second time this season the Yanks have taken a series from a team with the best record in baseball, away from Yankee Stadium. Gotta be excited about that.
Yanks have now won series from the 1st place team in the AL West, the 2nd place team in the AL West, the 1st place team in the AL Central, and the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the AL Central.
In fact, they’ve won series against every team in the at or over .500 except for the Red Sox.
Eh.
hold on here evan, i don’t want you to lose me. are you suggesting that a team that is 7 games over .500 and tied for first place just past the quarter mark of the season has done some good things against good teams? i know you’re not suggesting that.
