Yep, shoulda taken that trip to DC yesterday…
meh, i wouldn’t give that dog my fandom
Agreed – it would have made me smile to see Johnson end this season with an ERA of 6.98 and being stuck on 299 career wins.
My interest in this was purely of a fantasy standpoint..hes on my team, lol
Wanted to go purely from a historical standpoint. Given some of the players that have worn the pinstripes over the years, RJ is hardly ire-worthy.
As for being traded for AZ?
“His brother, Gregg, 51, the fourth of six kids in the family, died Dec. 12 after a brain aneurysm. It brought back memories from 14 years ago when his father, Bud, died of an aortic aneurysm on Christmas Day.
“To have your brother pass away in front of you,” Johnson says, slowly choosing his words, “that’s not easy. He had a stroke, and I came to see him (in the Bay Area). I was with him for three days. He was responding to doctors the first day and squeezing my hand and everything. Then, 48 hours later, the swelling on the brain took over. He stopped responding. He passed away in front of all of us.”
Yeah, what a selfish asshole for wanting to be closer to his family.
While Carl Pavano was being “American Idle” Johnson took an epidural, and took the ball for game 3 of the ALDS. He pitched through the 2006 season, bad back and all, and didn’t complain, gripe or groan.
So yeah, hate on him if you want, you guys have your opinion, you’re welcome to it. I’ll be content to watch a HoF’er ply his trade and reach a historic BASEBALL milestone.
I just don’t know how you can hate on a guy who, arguably, is one of the top 5 all-time great pitchers, whose only fault is a bad attitude.
Me on Unit: http://waswatching.com/2009/02/14/rooting-for-unit-to-fall-short/
i can’t really put my finger on it, but i hated it when he was traded here, i hated when he was here, and i was happy when he left. Might be just residual pain from 95 and 01, as Steve said in his other post, but i just don’t like the guy. If everyone else is allowed to have irrational hatred toward a player, so am i

And did he really have a bad attitude? He had a tiff with a cameraman and apologized for it. That’s it. Compared with some of the other characters that have worn the pinstripes over the years, that doesn’t even register on the list of things to get bent out of shape about…
Being a Yankees fan, understanding Munson’s situation, I can appreciate, and empathize with a player who wants to play closer to home, closer to his family.
Could things have been better? Sure. But I’m not going to hold it against him that they weren’t.
@ Raf:
my decision to hate him has nothing to do with his family fyi..i’m not sure why you keep bringin it up to be honest
@ Corey:
You have to read the other thread posted, and the comments to fully appreciate my stance.
BTW, I’m home sick today and had some extra time to play with ya’ll in the comments sections. But, it’s just a fluke thing. Just didn’t want anyone to think I went back on my word.
@ Steve Lombardi:
don’t act like you’re not enjoying yourself

Must be something going around, most of the guys in my group are out, so I’m holding it down at the office right now…
Yeah, I usually NEVER get sick – at least in the last 3 years, I can’t remember it happening. But, a bug hit me at 3 am last night. Very rare…must be stuff going around.
