Tomorrow, June 11, 2009, will be the 3,150th day since the Yankees beat the Mets to win the 2000 World Series.
Boy, eight years and seven and a half months flies when you’re having fun, huh?
So, here’s a fun exercise for today, a day advance of this 3,150 day anniversary, to try and take our Yankees minds off of the game with the Red Sox last night.
For you, what’s been your happiest moment as a Yankees fan in the last 3,149 days? Was it the Martinez or Brosius homers in the 2001 World Series? Was it the Boone homer in the 2003 ALCS? Was it the trade to get A-Rod? Was it A-Rod winning a MVP? (Heck, was it A-Rod getting busted for PEDs?) Was it Mussina finally winning 20? Was it Jeter diving into the stands after catching a pop-up? Was it the return of Roger Clemens? Was it the exit of Torre? Was it the final game at the old Yankee Stadium? Was it the opening of the new Stadium?
Me? It was probably the Boone homer. That was pure joy – especially since I saw it in person. But, sadly, that was over 2,000 days ago…which is a long time. How about you? If you had to pick your “happiest” moment since the 2000 World Series, what would it be?

Top Three Happiest Yank Moments Since 2000:
1) Aaron Boone Home Run
2) Trade for A-Rod
3) 2006 Boston Massacre (5 wins in Fenway to end the Sox season)
Honorable Mention: Games 4 and 5 of 2001 WS, Jeter dive-into-the-stands game in 2004, 2008 offseason signings.

Watching Boone’s HR in 2003 in my friend’s dorm room (who is a Sox fan) and watching him completely trash it in a fit of rage while I had a gigantic grin on my face.

I was watching on TV with a giant pit in my stomach because it was Farnsworth on the mound in a tight game.
The funny thing is that more than Melky’s catch, I was more pumped up by Damon’s reaction to it! I still have that game on TiVo and watch the catch every so often. One of the best moments of what was otherwise a really horrendous year of my life in ‘06.

also, broscious’ homer off kim then tino’s off kim (in order of excitement, obv)

Mine are a little different:
1A. Dave Roberts
1B. David Ortiz
1C. David Ortiz II
1D. The aftermath of A-Rod’s swipe at Arroyo’s glove
1E. Damon’s grand slam
1F. Joe Castiglione yelling “Can you believe it?”
2. What happened right before Papelbon showed off his “dance” moves in 2007

How about your worst Yankee moment? Here are mine…
1) 2001 WS
2) 2004 ALCS
3) 2006 ALDS (still believe we were the best team in baseball in 2006, such a disappointing series from all angles)
4) Last game at YS (I was there, and although it was a great night…still very sad)
5) 2003 WS (we really lost to the Marlins?)

Nothing matches the pure elation after Boone hit that HR… that was freaking cool… have never felt like that since… one of the best pure moments i have ever experienced watching the Yanks…

how bout when they chanted for o’neil? That would top a sad and happy list
June 10th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Seems like many love the Boone HR.
As Yankees fans, is it sad that our happiest moment happened 2,000+ days ago?

Sad? No, if you want to talk about sad we can bring up some of the organizations who haven’t experienced anything “great” like a walk off ALCS home run in a while. Royals, Orioles, Rangers, Pirates and Reds fans come to mind.
I’m ok with Boone being our last great moment.

i don’t think so, because it was so dramatic and awesome. I think that was the most exciting thing I’ve EVER seen, and everytime I see it, it still gives me goosebumps.

1. Boone
2. 2001 WS HRs (when they happened, that is.)
3. Boston Massacre (even though I was in the airport for 2 of the games)
4. Signing Tex (mostly because Sawx fans were sure he was theirs).
I’m not sure if I consider ‘03 against the Marlins good or not. I mean, at least we were there. the 90s made us feel we could and should win every WS we enter into. It should be exciting to be in WS, as well.

Without a doubt Mr. Boone’s Blast!!! That is a moment I will always remember. I still get goose bumps when I see that highlight. I can remember going nuts in my apartment that night. I remember the Yanks fighting to come back in that game and it couldn’t have ended any better. Aaron, hope you are feeling well and thank you for the memory. Go Yankees!
June 10th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
or what about bernie’s blast to clinch the east?
June 10th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Definitely Boone’s HR. What time was it? Well after midnight, right? I lived in an apartment and screamed my head off. I bet I woke some neighbors up!
Runner up is the 1996 WS clincher. It had been a long time since we won a WS. That’s my favorite WS win.
The worst was 2004.

My favorite moment has to be the “Mr. November” game in the 2001 World Series, because I was there and the atmosphere was amazing! The stadium literally shook down to its foundation when Jeter hit that HR. Also, Boone’s HR was awesome again because I was there to experience it…I remember Red Sox fans crying when they were leaving the stadium…The Boston Massacre comes next and then the 2001 ALCS when we beat the 116 win Seattle Mariners and rained down a chant of “overrated” onto Ichiro….The worst moment was losing 4 in a row to the Red Sox in 2004 and Griffrey running around 3rd to score in the ‘95 ALDS…
