@ Paul Katcher:
I agree with your sentiment on Rose but that moment went down a bit differently.

Jim Gray's interview during the World Series was not the time for Rose to come clean. It was completely inappropriate for Gray to have asked him about the issue at that time. Gray wanted to create a reputation that he could 'ask the tough question'. He cared more about that than anything Rose would say. Gray embarrassed himself. Curtis' stand was more about Gray ruining an otherwise great moment in baseball than Rose's specific issues.

According to covers.com, the Yankees were actually the money-line favorite to win today. (Of course, not by 15-0.)

And the biggest reason, among many, that Pete Rose is an idiot, is because he didn't come clean when the public was perfectly willing to forgive and forget, most notably when Jim Gray pressed him in front of an adoring crowd in Atlanta during the 1999 World Series. (And then Chad Curtis made that stand in the name of the team to boycott talking to Gray after Game 3. A precursor to the head-in-the-sand old-boys network protection MLB players extended to steroid users by refusing to talk to George Mitchell.)

Really, would you have bet on this outcome prior to this game being played?

Yeah, I would've. On the Mets, which is why I hardly ever bet.

Having said that, if the Mets rotation aligns so that Santana faces the Yanks at Citifield, and it surely will, bet the ranch on Santana that day. He won't forget this beating for a long, long time.

Well, half the ranch, anyway. Save the kitchen and the bathroom. You can always sleep on the kitchen table, or in the tub, and use a towels for blankets and pillows.

The losing pitchers for the Mets in this series were K-Rod and Santana. The winning pitcher was Nieve.

You never know indeed.
